We absolutely love seeing reviews like this for Dewars 💛
From a warm Yorkshire welcome, cosy fireside drinks and outstanding Sunday lunches, to gluten-free options, beautifully presented dishes and their stunning heated outdoor pool & sauna… it’s clear why guests leave, already planning their return!
Just over the road from Flamingo Land, Dewars is the perfect spot for a weekend break!
💬I didn’t know what to expect when we walked into Dewar's hotel, as we were just passing and looking for somewhere to go for Sunday lunch, after a weekend break in Malton, North Yorkshire.
I was really pleasantly surprised, firstly at how lovely the hotel decor was inside and the very warm welcome from a chap named Stuart (I think that’s his name ), who led us into the bar area of the hotel, where (as we hadn’t pre-booked the restaurant), gave us a table near the fire and promptly brought us menus and took our drinks order. We immediately relaxed into the comfortable chairs to thaw out, helped by a large glass of Savvy B😁
I informed the waitress that I was gluten intolerant and she gave me a special menu which clearly showed all the options I could have.
I went with the‘Seasonal’ soup, which was mushroom, followed by slow-cooked, Yorkshire Sirloin, served with duck fat & rosemary potatoes, buttered seasonal greens, carrot purée and braised red cabbage. My friend had the same, but with the addition of Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese. I’m not sure how we managed but we got through the very generous portions, and I almost inhaled the mushroom soup. I can honestly say that I have never had a more delicious and enjoyable Sunday lunch. It also shows how many calories are in each dish, not sure if I need to know when stuffing my face lol 🤪
Big hats off to the chef and his team. Looking around the room and the full restaurant, everyone seemed to be very content, with no rush to leave. Sadly, we had to leave for the drive home, but I have to give a special mention to the staff and the soup, that little drizzle of truffle oil and warm gf bread, was an absolute delight as was the beef. I am still salivating at the thought of it.
We didn’t have time (or space) for dessert, but looking at the other diners, we saw a gooey hot chocolate brownie and ice cream, sticky toffee pudding and what looked like a cheese board all being devoured on the next table.
We literally had to drag ourselves out into the cold and rain but with very satisfied (full) tummies. Stuart, the chap who welcomed us in, even showed us a brief glimpse at one of the rooms overlooking the pool when we were leaving , which I’m sure we will be booking for our next visit.
I even saw some ‘brave’ guests in the outdoor pool, but soon found out it was heated, thankfully, and it also has a sauna.
This is definitely my new favourite find.💬
✨ Here’s to great food and great hospitality! ✨
