Good evening everyone, 🐟🐟🐟
As many of you know we cook in beef dripping here at Pilling takeaway but that decision wasn’t taken lightly and when we took over over the chippy we knew that it was going to be one of the first things we did. Mainly because as a family we have all for many years struggled with stomach pain, feeling uncomfortable after after eating most fast food takeaways, especially chippy. Not anymore…‼️💡
However, we still get questioned a lot about why we changed to beef dripping and whether it is actually better for you. So… I thought I would share this information with you.
We cook in beef dripping — and here’s why.
Over the last century, our diets have quietly shifted. Seed oils — especially soybean oil — have gone from almost nonexistent to being in nearly everything: snacks, marinades, plant-based foods, even “health” products.
That change didn’t happen by accident.
In the mid-1900s, industrial food companies pushed vegetable oils into the mainstream, backed by early research that claimed replacing saturated fats with polyunsaturated fats would reduce heart disease. Those recommendations stuck — and seed oil consumption skyrocketed.
But here’s the problem: much of that early research is now heavily questioned, with modern analysis suggesting it was influenced by bias and incomplete data.
Meanwhile, what do we actually know about seed oils today?
• They’re highly processed — extracted using high heat, chemical solvents, and deodorisers.
• They often contain additives like BHA, BHT, and TBHQ to extend shelf life.
• They’re high in omega-6 fats, which in excess can contribute to inflammation and oxidative stress.
• They’re prone to going rancid, especially when heated.
• Many come from genetically modified crops treated with herbicides like glyphosate.
There’s also growing evidence linking excessive omega-6 intake to chronic conditions like obesity, metabolic issues, and cardiovascular disease — especially when it throws off the balance with omega-3s.
And it doesn’t stop there — studies have even linked high omega-6 levels to reduced male fertility and CELLULAR DAMAGE over time❗️❗️
So why beef dripping?
Because it’s simple, traditional, and stable.
Beef dripping (rendered beef fat) has been used for generations. It’s minimally processed, naturally rich in fat-soluble vitamins, and far more stable at high cooking temperatures — meaning it’s less likely to oxidise and break down into harmful compounds.
We’re not chasing trends — we’re going back to what worked.
Real food. Traditional fats. No industrial shortcuts.
That’s why we cook the way we do.
