What Would You Like to See Stocked at The Farmers Hut?

As many of you know, The Farmers Hut is usually open during the asparagus season, with fresh Ashby Asparagus being the main attraction.

With the season drawing to a close, we're interested to know whether you'd like to see the hut remain open for longer throughout the year.

What local produce would you like us to stock? If there's enough demand from the community, we'd love to explore expanding what we offer and keeping the hut stocked beyond the asparagus season.

Last call for 2026 Asparagus.

Traditionally, the British asparagus season runs through to Midsummer's Day on 21st June. However, thanks to the exceptionally warm weather we've enjoyed this spring, our season will be coming to an end a little earlier than usual, with picking finishing this week.

If you've been meaning to stock up, now is the time. While asparagus can be frozen and enjoyed later in soups, risottos and other dishes, we all know it's at its absolute best when eaten fresh.

We'll have freshly picked asparagus available from The Farmers Hut this weekend, but once it's gone, that's it until next year.

How do you like to eat your asparagus?

One of our favourite ways to serve it is with a classic French gribiche sauce. Rich, tangy and packed with flavour. It's a brilliant alternative to hollandaise and pairs perfectly with fresh asparagus.

Gribiche sauce is made with hard-boiled eggs, cornichons, capers, Dijon mustard, fresh herbs and oil, creating a creamy sauce with plenty of texture and a delicious sharpness that cuts through the sweetness of the asparagus.

If you've never tried asparagus this way before, it might just become your new favourite!
