🚨 Warning ⚠️ Cute picture alert (but we are biased)…
May we introduce you to the newest member of our small farm team, the gorgeous little Clementine!
She was born 10 days ago now and is settling into farm life, or more so our home on the farm, well! She’s keeping us up at night and busy in the daytimes but was still able to get out with Daddy this morning in a sling and help with the veg box picking!
We obviously had to get our new team member some uniform and pop her in a veg box (we do that with all new starters right?!) 😂
Surrounding Clemmie, our little bundle of joy, is everything we put in the veg boxes this week. These are boxes of veg that we are really proud of! Bumper harvests and a great share of veg for all! All at a cheaper rate than the supermarket too!! (If you haven’t seen my blog on this check out the website)
Link in bio to find out more on our veg boxes too ⬆️
Please do join us in welcoming little Clemmie to the team! 👇

This woman is my absolute hero!!
Today Emily is 40 weeks pregnant and she is handling it all heroically!
40 weeks pregnant and still helped with harvest (despite us trying to get her to rest), still doing some deliveries, still smiling despite crazy heat. For the whole time Emily has been absolutely incredible and taken everything in her stride!
She is going to be the absolute best mum, and she is the best wife I could ask for. My hero! Thank you for everything.
(Soppy post over, normal pictures of vegetables resume tomorrow… unless the little one is born!)
If everything goes a bit quiet on our side you will know why! - from Chris

A beautiful blue sky… but if you look closely you will see our friend Bazza!!

Bazza is a buzzard that we believe has been territorial of our farm for the last 2 seasons! We see him perching in the big willow at the back of the farm and flying above all the time! (I don’t know why we’ve decided it’s a him, probably because Bazza the Buzzard is fun to say and who doesn’t love a bit of alliteration).

The farm is becoming more and more a natural ecosystem, we see buzzards and kestrels regularly over the farming hunting for their tea… the mix of insects is amazing on the farm when you look closely, the heron visits the pond, there are damson flies and dragon flies all over the farm, and on a recent ecological survey a sparrowhawk was seen having a bath in the pond!

This is a big part of what it is about for us! Creating a space that feeds families whilst working WITH nature! If we can work to create this environment we will see the ecosystem solve problems for us. Slug or mole damage will level out as natural predators move in… all it takes is patience and removing nasty chemicals from the loop!

We are proud of this, and love the distraction of watching Bazza for a couple of minutes each day! Their wing patterns are stunning 😍

It’s the most wonderful tiiiime of the year… forget the c-word.. tomato time is the best time of the year!

And this year we are growing salad ready to go in the polytunnel together! Basil and tomatoes grow really well together and they GO really well together too! In a salad with a pinch of salt and olive oil… or if you like a bit of cheese layer slices of mozzarella in there too!

YUM!! We will be putting pinches of basil in with our tomatoes in our veg boxes this year.

Today is veg box day and tomato / basil salads packs are in our full share veg boxes!

Find out more about how you can get your hands on one on our website!! Or comment below 👇 and we will send you some more info!

It’s Kale time, beautiful mixed bunches of kale heading to customers at the moment!

You could walk down the aisle with these bunches, but they are better eaten! Super tasty mix of Curly Kale, Cavolo Nero and Red Kale.

We grow a variety of kale on the farm as not only is it super tasty, it’s extremely versatile and can be cooked in different ways… but it is also one of the most nutrient dense vegetables we grow in the UK!

Full of iron and vitamins… if popeye knew about kale he would have dumped the spinach 💪 🥬

Find out more about our veg boxes (where this kale is off to) on our website!

Courgettes, courgettes and more courgettes!!

We have gone big on the courgettes this year as we LOVE THEM! But they are a crop that takes a fair chunk of time as now they are reaching the warm summer months we have to pick them every single day to stay on top of them and get them at their sweet stage… before they turn into marrow sized!

We’d love to hear about your favourite courgette recipes? Ribboned in pasta, scooped out and stuffed, or sliced with cheese? What’s your favourite way to eat courgettes? Let us know in the comments below 👇

Hand tools rule!! 🤘

We have been tackling the w**ds this week with the help of some awesome people and using these oldies but goodies hand tools!

There’s rarely a w**d that a spade or hoe can’t handle, then a gentle cultivate with our old hand cultivator (this doesn’t invert the soil, just a deeper rake really so still holds same qualities as no-dig). Then clean up with a rake!

We have cleared some seriously big docks, thistles and others. Then these beds we will be filling them with radishes again soon!

Thank you to those that have helped so far! Still lots to do so let us know if you’d like to join this week! 😀

Our polytunnel is bursting at the seams with little plug plants like this now… we love them so much! They are little miracles to us!
You pop in a tiny little seed, and with a bit of water this amazing thing grows with such intricate roots in beautiful patterns below the soil, and a stunning plant on top that will eventually feed people! It’s incredible when you really think about it isn’t it!?

Reasons to join a CSA Veg Box Scheme #3… Regenerative Farming will save the planet!!
I would need more characters than insta allows if I was to write all the reasons why, but in its simplest form we give back more than we take away from the environment around us.
Regenerating the soils, sequestering carbon, and bringing wildlife back to the local area.
Not to mention the reduced air miles, food miles and general carbon emissions that are saved by buying local rather than from the supermarkets with imported veg!
If you are conscious of our climate emergency and doing your bit, then there is no easier way than from buying your veg through a CSA Veg Box Scheme!
Sign ups are open now link in our bio or head to our website!

Fanfield Farm – The Story

When I was a young boy, my parents used to take me, from our home town Southampton, up to Worksop near Sheffield to spend time on my Great Aunts Farm.

Auntie Prue was a formidable and incredibly strong woman who in the local community needed no introduction.

Every summer she would have us visit, but by no means did that mean we sat around having tea. Auntie Prue had jobs for us all, after all she almost single handedly ran a large dairy farm.

Prue married young, but not long after her husband (whom I never met) was tragically killed in a chalk quarry accident. This left my great Auntie Prue to run the dairy farm on her own, which she did from around the age of 18 until she sadly passed in her 90’s.
