I’ve had the absolute pleasure to have contributed a very small part towards this project in Blackpool. Helping to create ‘The Dreamers’ from The Field of Dreams. Creations made from the crop that has been growing there this season.

You may have passed by the old football playing fields on Mereside (near the big tescos!) This year the field has sprung to life with a sea of wild flowers .. creating The Field of Dreams.

This Friday evening the field will come to life through a Lightpool project creating an immersive celebration of the season with lights bringing the creations to life.

CHEEKY!

As if these very peculiar looking tubers make the most beautiful flowers. growing starts way back in May, so it’s a long waiting game… but so worth it!

These monstrous looking things make the most gorgeous cut flowers for cutting throughout late summer & into autumn.
Such a statement flower!

All the prep was so worth it !

This month started with a lovely trip to for a Flowers From The Farm workshop. An inspirational day discussing and learning all about seasonal, plastic free farewell flowers.

Why do funeral flowers always come with so many non biodegradable parts?

Claire from demonstrated so well that farewell flowers can be fully eco friendly, natural, with sustainable floristry mechanics and still look amazingly beautiful.

From tied sheaves, wreaths and coffin sprays all created naturally with seasonal chemical free flowers.. a beautiful tribute for any loved one.

The use of British cut flowers or flowers gathered from a loved one’s garden to bring colour, scent and a relaxed tribute.

Another way in which locally grown, chemical free stems and flowers grown with so much care can be used. 💚

An inspiring and heartwarming day!

Time for an update .. What’s been happening in the flower field ! It has been a busy summer growing flowers, trying to keep them alive after the continuous mixed and the never ending jobs the flower field requires.. But we got there! Some flowers have looked beautiful, others not so good and it’s been a full on few months. But we wouldn’t have it any other way, sustainable flowers, chemical free, grown not flown.

Let’s do this all over again !

September .. you have been a busy one!

Well to be honest I thought the flowers were done and dusted at the beginning of the month. And I personally was also a little exhausted after a long summer deheading, watering & picking and snipping more frequently. The flowers have worked hard and they were looking a little tired !

But after a good spell of rain the flowers had sprung to life again. And this month has belonged to the dahlia with so many filler flowers adding to the mix.

Early Autumn is a busy time on the flower field, the whole cycle starts again.. so it was time for seed saving & seed sowing. Flowers for next year & Planning the field.

Poly is up ✅
Seeds have been sown ✅
Happy customers ✅

Let’s see how October goes !

How’s the flower growing going ?

Flower growing this year, from the first Spring flowers through to the Autumn dahlias. We grow colour, variety and stems for so many reasons. Our flowers are ready for picking usually from late April through to October. All grown from seed, bulb or tuber and planted by hand!

Flowers and Bees the perfect companions ! Something I’ve wanted to explore for a while.. how bee hives could be beneficial to the farm and what we can offer the bees.

A day spent learning so much more, from their lifecycle, hive care to the amount of honey they can produce!
The perfect relationship for any flower field and one of the most hard working pollinators there is.

With the added bonus of freshly made honey fed by the seasonal flowers grown in the field.

Any advice for a first time wanna be bee keeper?
