Whilst our comms have been quiet the farm has not been! Full on lambing and over half way. It’s a mixed bag this year but that’s the way it rolls with farming, you take the good with the bad! A lot of the lambs have been turned out into the field by the shed, so you will be able to see them on your walks! Tonight we had a late night shed check and fed the lambs in the field, whilst enjoying the sight of the super moon.

Busy day on the farm sorting it out ready to bring the girls home next weekend in readiness for lambing! We have 4 new chickens collected today. 2 leghorns and 2 emeralds! Which saw a mass sort out of all the hens, coops cleaned, moved to new grass and they have been split in to old hens and young hens!! They really did make quite a fuss and it ruffled a few feathers as they established a new pecking order!!

The weekend has been a busy one again moving the sheep around. We have surprise lambs too!

Sadly it has been tainted by dogs and their walkers! If you and your loved ones like to see lambs in the field then please be mindful that picking up your dog’s poo, will help this to be achieved and walking your dog on a lead through livestock! Dog faeces carries parasites and diseases that can harm sheep and cattle which can result in death! Please can we be more considerate when walking your dogs.

Purton is a nice place to live and the community is very lucky to have farms and countryside to walk through but its farmers and landowners need your help. 24 bags of dog poo was collected up today by our farm(her)!!

Another weekend and another one spent fencing and moving the pregnant ewes onto new pasture. Not long to go till they will be back in the shed. Two ewes that haven’t been marked and suspected of being baron are in fact bagged up 😬 so they are back home and in the shed……

Sunday has been all about the farm’s poultry. All had a deep clean and runs moved. Barbara and co have been relocated to the farm, as they are too rebellious to be domesticated. The neighbors of Vasterne Hill you sadly, won’t have a free range Barbara visiting. 😂

Watch this space, as the farm has got some more bantams. They are 4/5 months old so bare with them but we should have some bantum eggs back on the market. We also have a bantam cockerel, Duke. So we are hopeful we can get some homebreds of a different variety. But they won’t stand as tall or proud as King D*ck, our homebred Wellsummer x.

To top off the weekend we ended with our own slow grown, grass feed lamb shoulder slow roasted! Heaven!
