Whitegates Farm and Nursery Established by my father in 1974 as Wheatsheaf Salads, West Malling renting 7 acres of land. Moved up to the current rented site on 63 acres.

January is all about getting moving again after Christmas and starting it in the right way. I will be counting both walking and running for this challenge and expect to be doing many multiples of 31 miles before the end of January. Please donate to keep me and Waffle motivated. Waffle is anticipating at least 155 miles with me so a quintiple challenge for the month. Probably double that with solo running, so the challenge is set at 310 miles in January running and walking!

Our Story

For the past 20 years we have been selling direct to the public at farmers markets in Kent and occasionally Sussex and also South London. Prior to that we supplied numerous supermarkets/cooperatives and wholesale markets for 25 years and ran various concessions in shops and nurseries. My father grows a range of seasonal fruit and vegetables while i grow a range of plants on the nursery within the farm. While the nursery is dormant over winter i contract prune for a couple of local farms. 2 winters ago my body decided pruning was too much for me and now i am trying to run the nursery full time as well as tidy up after Dad

In 1997 I was lucky enough to be able to buy the freehold and ensure the continuity of the business. 21 years on and we are still hanging in there, although 2018 is certainly proving challenging starting with our coldest spring in a long time followed by the warmest and driest summer since 1976.
