High Trees Honey

High Trees Honey Seasonally harvested 100% pure 🍯 as healthy naturally sustainable delights from our 🐝 hives. So once a harvest is gone, its gone for ever.

Our hives are located in permanent apiaries, a few miles from Merstham and situated within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, enabling the honeybees magnificent forage across gentle chalk hills and sweeping valleys, in collecting pollen and nectar from flowers of the countryside, farmers local crops, domestic Merstham gardens and woodland of the North Downs

We run a single origi

n honey harvest, in that all our jarred honey comes from one apiary, with one harvest in the jar and remains uniquely traceable. Whereas honeys bought from shops (even some local beekeepers) can be blended from different apiaries, whereas our single origin honey comes from just one apiary. No adulterating, blending or pasteurisation, so it will crystallise naturally, itself a sign of purity and unique in quality. Our bees produce a limited edition honey every harvest; in that nothing is added or taken away, just as nature intended. So no two honey's from High Trees Honey will ever taste the same, they are always limited editions and unique, because the combination of visits to over a million flowers that make a jar of honey, they will be totally impossible to replicate exactly again. Honey's longevity (shelf life) can be explained by its chemical makeup: its naturally acidic and low in moisture, making it an inhospitable environment for bacteria. In general, regardless of its variety, honey is a natural product and an ancient part of humans' food. Honey is accepted in having numerous natural properties used in treating burns, sore throats and cuts, used in food (cakes, biscuits, hot drinks) as a natural alternative to refined sugar. Our prices are based on collection, direct from our doorstep, High Trees, 26 London Road South, Merstham, Redhill, RH1 3DT (on Google navigation systems, enter 26 Grange Drive) we are on the left hand side of the service road (when heading North on A23), between Lime Trees First & Middle School and Merstham Village. Payment is possible by our contactless card machine: accepting credit card, debit card and American Express as well as Apple, Samsung and Google Pay. Contactless and allows user to enter pin or tap, and of course we accept local currency. A receipt provided whichever method customer chooses to use. Apiculture is a husbandry best met with knowledge, in dealing quickly with the ever changing challenges. The craft enables understanding the purpose pollinators serve, through assisting Science with Research and Development project, in support of healthy ecosystems, impacts of humans and agriculture on the environment through pesticides, non-native pests and disease, they can and will encounter, locally and globally. At High Trees Honey we volunteer regularly, by sharing the importance of our native and solitary pollinators, along with the amazing work they do in keeping our ecosystems moving, evolving issues of biodiversity due to climate change. Along with offering ways our communities can improve habitats for pollinators wellbeing; as their success is vital to our planet and ultimately our wide food variety. Other ways we volunteer, is in helping the public by collecting swarms or providing advice on behalf of British Beekeepers Association, along with Croydon & Reigate Divisions of Surrey Beekeepers, is undertaken evenings and weekends, so our response times can be next day or two, at times to fit round a challenging career, although we try hard to respond within 24 hours. The career is not related to this husbandry, but looks to try and make a difference through improving the environment, in use of renewable energies, by reducing humans dependencies on fossil fuels to achieve better options, cleaner and greener ecosystems and a better biodiversity for future generations.

Yellow-legged Asian hornets - awareness, not alarm 🐝

Recent research and discussion suggest there may be evidence that some yellow-legged Asian hornet populations in England have persisted over several years, particularly in parts of the South East. While the authorities continue to locate and destroy nests, it reinforces the importance of staying vigilant.

For us at High Trees Honey, the message is simple: be aware, but don’t panic.

If you think you’ve spotted a suspected yellow-legged Asian hornet, take a clear photo if it’s safe to do so and report it through the official channels. Please don’t try to destroy nests yourself or put out indiscriminate traps, as these can catch native insects and valuable pollinators.

Here in Surrey, the best defence is an informed public. Early reporting gives the authorities the best chance of locating and removing nests before they spread further.

• National Bee Unit (BeeBase) - https://www.nationalbeeunit.com/diseases-and-pests/asian-hornet

As local beekeepers, we’ll continue doing our bit by monitoring our apiaries, supporting public awareness and encouraging evidence-based reporting. Honey bees need flowers, forage and good husbandry - but they also benefit from communities that know what to look out for. 🌼🐝

🐝🍯 What a day! 🍯🐝

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the High Trees Honey stall at the All Saints Summer Fair today.

The observation hive (on left in picture) was busy from start to finish, with children and adults alike fascinated by the bees and determined to find the 👸🏼 queen. We lost count of the number of conversations about bees, gardens, pollinators, swarms and local wildlife.

It was also lovely catching up with customers, neighbours, fellow beekeepers and meeting plenty of new faces interested in keeping bees or supporting local honey producers.

After yesterday’s rain, the weather was far kinder than expected and the whole event had a fantastic community feel. Credit to all the organisers and volunteers who put so much work into making it happen.

The bees are now safely back in their apiary after a busy day representing their sisters and helping spread a little awareness about the importance of pollinators.

Now we’re home, unpacked, slightly sun-tired and looking forward to some rest.

Thank you, All Saints' Summer Fair and Dog Show, Merstham. 🐝❤️

🐝🌍 World Environment Day – 5 June 2026 🌍🐝

Every jar of honey starts with something much bigger than a bee hive.

Wildflowers on a roadside verge. A flowering hedge. Clover in a lawn. Blossom on a fruit tree. A neighbour choosing to leave part of their garden a little wild.

As beekeepers, we’re reminded every day that healthy bees depend on a healthy environment. The same is true for bumblebees, solitary bees, butterflies, hoverflies and countless other pollinators.

This World Environment Day, consider doing one small thing for wildlife:

🌸 Plant pollinator-friendly flowers
🐝 Leave a patch of garden to grow naturally
💧 Provide fresh water for insects and birds
🌳 Protect trees, hedgerows and green spaces
🍯 Support local food producers and growers

Small actions. Local impact. Together they make a difference.

What’s flowering in your garden right now?

🐝 Ever wondered why there are bees on the Lyle’s Golden Syrup tin?

The design dates back to the 1880s and is one of Britain’s oldest surviving food labels.

While much of the brand has been modernised, the famous bees remain.

Perhaps that’s because bees are about far more than honey - they’re vital pollinators supporting our food and biodiversity.

🍯🌿 Sweetness starts with healthy bees and healthy forage.

🌿🐝 Volunteers’ Week (1–7 June 2026) feels a good moment to quietly say thank you to the people who keep local community groups, charities and support networks running in the background.

Community volunteering genuinely matters. Whether that’s foodbanks, dementia support, local education, environmental projects, mentoring new beekeepers, swarm response, or helping raise awareness around Yellow-Legged Hornets and pollinator health 🐝

A lot of this work goes unseen most of the time. It simply carries on because people choose to give their time, energy and patience to help others.

Over the years we’ve supported a number of charities and local causes, but more recently have focused much of our charitable support toward the Alzheimer’s Society (https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) alongside the training and mentoring work we continue to do through Reigate Beekeepers Association (https://reigatebeekeepers.org.uk/?utm_source=chatgpt.com), Croydon Beekeepers Association (https://croydonbeekeepers.org.uk/) and the wider British Beekeepers Association (BBKA, https://www.bbka.org.uk/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) network across Surrey and the South East.

As a small thank you during Volunteers’ Week, we’ve also quietly supplied some jars of High Trees Honey 🍯 to support a local volunteer initiative. We won’t spoil the surprise, but hopefully they’ll be enjoyed by some very deserving people.

None of it is really about headlines. Strong communities only work because volunteers keep showing up ❤️

To everyone who gives their time freely to help others - thank you.

🐝 World Bee Day – 20th May 2026

Most people only notice bees when a swarm suddenly appears somewhere locally…

But every day, across gardens, hedgerows, parks and farmland, pollinators are quietly out working.

Honeybees get most of the attention, but bumblebees, solitary bees and hoverflies all play a huge part too.

Right now is peak season locally. Colonies are expanding fast and bringing in pollen and nectar from across the Surrey landscape.

The fresh pale wax in this video has only just been built over the last few days using nectar gathered from spring forage around the North Downs.

And somewhere in amongst all the workers is HRH 👑 herself walking across the new comb…

Can you spot her?

Happy World Bee Day from High Trees Honey, Merstham 🐝
