Thank you to everyone who came last week to the sheep shearing afternoon. If anyone is interested in purchasing any sheep’s wool for your garden please ask a member of staff, and we will be happy to help. 😊
Sheep’s wool is great natural way of keeping slugs and weeds at bay!
It’s also high in nitrogen which is great for growing in a true natural way.
Shop opens tomorrow 10am-4pm see you all then.

Today we have baled and wrapped our second cut silage.
We cut silage this time of year when the grass is at it’s highest sugar and protein content to give our happy herd a great source of good grass throughout the winter.
Silage is basically wet grass wrapped in plastic. It ferments over the summer and we open up once the cattle are in for the winter.

Two weeks ago we planted our pumpkins πŸŽƒ sunflowers 🌻 and sweetcorn 🌽.
Today we saw the first signs of germination. You can see in the photos how small the pumpkin leaves are compared to the ladybird next to it!
Hopefully after the rain we have had over the last two weeks, and now the warm weather incoming, it will continue to grow 😊

A huge thank you to everyone who visited us today, whether you came along to our Sheep Shearing & Feeding Event, visited the Farm Shop, or simply stopped by to say Hello 😊

As many of you know, St Joans Farm is a small family-run farm. We are still very new on this journey and are working hard to diversify while continuing to farm regeneratively, responsibly and sustainably.

Our aim is not only to support British Farming, but also to create a fun, educational and welcoming place where the local community can connect with farming and learn more about where their food comes from and the work that goes into caring for all our livestock.

Seeing so many families enjoying the sheep, asking questions, supporting the shop and spending time on the farm today reminds us exactly why we're doing this.

Thank you for helping us take another step forward on this journey. Your support genuinely means the world to our family and helps us continue investing in the future of the farm.

We look forward to welcoming you back again when we can host more events in the future.

None of what we achieve would be possible without the continued support from our nearest and dearest, I've said it before but we can't thank you all enough Aaron Ball Aneliese Whittaker Victoria Smythe Marta Lloyd Jason Lloyd Steve Woods Logan Kelly.

🍯 A very special milestone for St Joans Farm... our own honey is finally here! 🍯

After more than 12 months of hard work from our bees and our in-house beekeeper, Richard, we're incredibly proud to announce that St Joans Farm Honey will be available to purchase from this Saturday.

Living in our "Beehive Field" is home to 7 hives and approximately 350,000 honey bees. These amazing little workers have spent the last year collecting nectar, pollinating the local countryside and producing the honey that is now ready for you to enjoy.

🐝 Did you know it takes the lifetime work of around 16 bees to produce just one teaspoon of honey?

🐝 Another fascinating fact is that the bees depend on their stored honey to survive the winter. Responsible beekeepers don't harvest honey during winter, as the colony relies on these precious reserves to keep warm and fed through the colder months.

🐝 And when it comes to the hive, it's the female worker bees that do almost all the hard work - collecting nectar and pollen, caring for the young, building the honeycomb and maintaining the hive. The male bees, known as drones, have one main purpose: to mate with a queen. Those that mate die shortly afterwards, while the remaining drones are usually evicted from the hive before winter so the colony can conserve its food stores.

For us, this is about much more than just honey.
At St Joans Farm, we're passionate about farming in a way that works alongside nature. Our bees play a vital role in pollinating wildflowers, hedgerows and crops, helping to support biodiversity across the farm and beyond.

Producing our own honey is a huge milestone for St Joans Farm and another step in our journey towards more regenerative and sustainable farming practices. To be able to offer honey produced by our own bees, from our own Beehive Field, right here on the farm, is something we're incredibly proud of.

Special thanks to Gerry and Reigate bee keepers association for their support and advice.

πŸ‘ SHEEP SHEARING & FEEDING THIS SATURDAY! πŸ‘

Come along to see us at St Joans Farm this Saturday for a chance to see our sheep being sheared and meet some of our flock up close in the barn!

πŸ“St Joans Farm, Leigh
πŸ‘ Sheep Shearing Viewing & Feeding Sessions.
πŸ• 1pm – 4pm
⏰ Entry slots every 30 minutes
πŸ’· Β£3 per person (includes a small bag of sheep feed each - *cash only*)

No need to book – just turn up!

A few things to note:
* This event is cash only
* Entrance is every half hour. If a session reaches capacity, you'll be first in line for the next available slot.
* Approximate capacity of 30–35 people per session.
* No dogs allowed in the barn.
* Children must be supervised at all times.
* For health and safety reasons, pregnant women should not attend the sheep barn due to the potential health risks associated with sheep during the lambing season.

Why do sheep need shearing? Sheep don't naturally shed all of their wool, so regular shearing helps keep them comfortable, healthy and cool during the warmer months.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about farming and animal care.

πŸ›οΈ Our farm shop will be open as usual from 10am – 4pm, fully stocked with our homebred beef and lamb, fresh local produce, dairy products, bakery treats and more.

We look forward to welcoming you to our farm this Saturday! 🚜🌿
