It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closure of Serious Brewing. I can hold my head up high knowing that I made a mark on the beer world and weathered many storms, but I can only take so much, and I feel that now is the right time for this chapter to end.

Since the COVID pandemic, hospitality has become a very different landscape. Pubs are closing, and those that once thrived are ordering less and less frequently. Alongside this, I have been navigating significant personal challenges, and my energy and mental health have understandably been affected.

The Whitewell — originally launched as a tap for Serious beers — will remain open as this is now run independently from Serious Brewing.

I believed in my beers and brewed them with passion, but passion alone cannot keep a business running. I am out of steam and out of funds.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported and believed in me and Serious Brewing over the years.

Water now back on at the site so I can now catch up with brewing some pales to replenish after Christmas. Today I'm brewing with Motueka

Currently the brewery is without water due to burst pipes on site. Not the start to the New Year I wanted.

Looking at the increase in duty based on current production I will see an increase of around £1.50 per firkin in duty for a 4% beer with the draught beer discount. Breweries with larger production will be hit with higher increases as Small Producer Relief is on a sliding scale based on previous year's production.

Not long now until our 10 year anniversary celebration at The Baum on Tuesday 25th November, and I've had some beermats produced to mark the occaision printed by the guys at Hot Metal Press Ltd
