When will this year’s honey be ready? 🍯

We’ve been getting lots of lovely messages asking when our 2026 honey will be available, so here’s a little update for you all!

Right now, we’re busy adding “super” boxes to the hives—these are the frames where our hardworking bees will store their honey. 🐝
The warm, sunny weather has been perfect for the bees, although a little rain would help the flowers produce even more nectar for them to collect.

If all goes well, our Spring Honey should be ready around the beginning of June.

As always, our wonderful Facebook followers will get the first opportunity to buy before it goes on general sale—so make sure you’re following our page: Micklebring Honey to stay updated!

Thank you so much for your continued support 💛

The beginning of the end of winter 🐝🌼

This early spring sunshine has certainly brought our bees out foraging. They’re returning to the hive with their leg sacs packed full of bright yellow pollen – but where is it coming from?

You might assume it’s from daffodils or dandelions, but in fact most of it is collected from tree catkins, which flower in abundance in early spring. Hazel, alder, silver birch and oak all produce these hanging, pollen-rich flowers (with hazel and willow being especially important). They are among the very first food sources available in late winter and early spring, making them absolutely crucial for bees and other wildlife.

We’re keeping all our fingers crossed for kind weather this spring. All being well, our first batch of 2026 honey should be available in early June 🍯

Our lovely Facebook followers are always offered our honey first before it goes on general sale.

So, if you enjoy learning about our bees and would like to be one of the first to know when our honey is ready, please do follow the Micklebring Honey page.

A warning has been issued after an invasive yellow-legged Asian hornet - which can decimate native bee hives - was spotted in Doncaster for the first time.

A bit of a ‘long’ watch. But well worth it to see what is actually in honey you buy from the supermarket. As a local beekeeper and member of the BBKA we feel very strongly that there should be better regulations to ensure that when you buy honey, you are indeed buying honey!!

🍂 Autumn is Here 🍂
As the season turns to Autumn, our bees are busy preparing for winter. Unlike some bumblebee species, honey bees don’t hibernate — they remain active throughout the year.
By now, all the male bees have been expelled from the hive. The food stores are carefully reserved for the queen and her loyal female worker bees. The queen has stopped laying eggs, and the bees currently in the hive will live through the winter, ready to welcome new life in early spring when egg-laying resumes.
Unlike some beekeepers, we don’t take all the honey our bees produce. We leave them plenty of their own honey — their natural and nutritious winter food source. Packed with pollen and essential nutrients, it’s far better for their health than sugar syrup or artificial supplements.
On sunny autumn days, you may still spot our bees flying, foraging on late-blooming flowers like ivy to top up their stores for the colder months ahead.

🍯 Honey Still Available 🍯
We still have a limited supply of our delicious honey available:
• £6 for a 12oz jar
• or £5 per jar when buying 2 or more jars

Once it’s gone, the next harvest won’t be until June next year, so don’t miss out!

🎉 Try Our First Batch of Creamed Honey! 🍯

We’re excited to share our very first small batch of creamed honey — be among the first to taste it!

Our creamed or soft-set honey has a soft, buttery-like texture that makes it perfect for spreading. And don’t worry — it’s still 100% pure honey. 💛

So, how does it work? We start by taking a small amount of crystallised honey and crush it by hand using a pestle and mortar. This creates a fine, smooth texture — we call this our “seed” honey. Over time, we mix in warmed liquid honey, and the fine crystals in the seed help guide how the rest of the honey crystallises. The result? A beautifully creamy texture that should stay creamy for much longer than regular set honey.

Honey is truly amazing stuff !! 🐝

🍯 Prices:
£6 per 12oz jar
£5 per jar when buying 2 or more

This is our first go at creamed honey, and we’d love your feedback! Let us know what you think after trying it.
