Tonight will be a very good night 🍷🍷
A treat and a well earned reward for 30 years in the wine trade May 11th 1996 - 💕
Thank you to everyone that has supported me over the past 30 years. I do hope a little of my enthusiasm and passion has rubbed off 🙏🥰
Puligny Montrachet for starters and Chateau Talbot 4th Growth St Julien 2016.
If you’ve never heard of Talbot and then read the link for all the history.
Thanks to Mum for making Pheasant for tonights dinner and putting up with me with my passion. I think she loves it really as she gets to enjoy great wine too, especially tonight as I’m sharing it with her 😉
Chateau Talbot 2016 Vintage
Score 97/100 - Drink Window Hold
Description
A year of extremes, with a very rainy spring backed by a very dry summer. Cabernet relished the drought, yielding reds that are ripe and tannic, but also racy, fresh and full of aromas; yields normal to above normal. Upper Médoc superb, with St.-Estèphe, Pauillac and St.-Julien the epicenter of quality

On May 11th, 1996, I began my first day in the wine industry with Vicomte Bernard de Romanet. The company later became part of its parent, Pieroth, until I decided to branch out on my own in 2012. I’ve been fortunate to travel the world through my work and wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. Highlights include working around Cork, Eire, spending 12 years doing 26 days at the Ideal Home Exhibition at Earls Court, and founding and organizing the Rothwell Saturday Market. I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me on this long journey. To celebrate, I’m enjoying a relaxed day and later this evening will open two of my favorite wines, Puligny Montrachet and Chateau Talbot 2016, to share on the page.
To celebrate, enjoy 30% off—just enter 30OFF at checkout. The Connoisseur Case, usually £179.88 plus delivery, is now only £125.92 total with delivery included.
Ends strictly Sunday May 17th. While stocks last

Celebrating my 30th anniversary in the wine trade (May 11th) in style 🇵🇹
When you buy wine from me, you buy great wine, personally chosen at an affordable price 🤗
It’s hard enough after 5 years as a small independent but for 30 years is a major achievement 👊
May 11th will be a time to reflect and see what brings us in the future 🍷💕

Last night I had the pleasure of hosting a wine tasting for 26 guests in support of the Rothwell Preservation Trust, raising funds to help save the roof of the historic Market House—a Grade I listed building dating back to around 1577. Built by Thomas Tresham, whose son was later involved in the Gunpowder Plot, it’s a venue steeped in remarkable history.

It was my first large wine tasting in nine years, so I’ll admit the nerves were there at the start—but it didn’t take long for the old rhythm to return. What followed was a lively, engaging evening full of great wines, stories, and shared enthusiasm.

A huge thank you to my friends Claire and Shirley, who kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes—serving the wines and food so I could focus on guiding everyone through the tasting.

Every wine on the night was personally selected from my portfolio at www.smedawines.co.uk, making it a truly personal showcase.

Thanks go to the Rothwell Preservation Trust for the invite 🙏
