Creatine… why is everyone talking about it? 🌿

Creatine has been making headlines, moving beyond the world of sports nutrition and into wider conversations about strength, ageing and brain health.

Our bodies naturally produce creatine, and we also get it from foods such as meat and fish. It helps supply energy to our muscles, and research supports its use alongside resistance training to improve strength and muscle performance. 💪

So, who might be interested? From people who strength train to adults looking to maintain muscle as they get older, creatine is an option worth exploring. Research into possible benefits for brain health is also ongoing.

We love these three trusted brands:
🌿 Viridian Creatine Monohydrate with magnesium
💚 KIKI Health Creatine Monohydrate
✨ Napiers Creatine Monohydrate

Each offers an option to explore, and our team can help you understand the products and their ingredients.

Curious about creatine? Pop into Rye or Cranbrook for a chat with our experienced team. We’re always happy to help. 💚

As the days get shorter, vitamin D is something worth thinking about. 🌿

It plays an important role in maintaining healthy bones and teeth, supporting normal muscle function and the normal function of our immune system.

With less sunlight available during autumn and winter, it can be harder for our bodies to make enough vitamin D naturally. Georgina shares a little more about why we need it and how it supports our everyday health.

If you have questions about vitamin D supplements, pop into Rye or Cranbrook for a chat with our team. 💚

What does ‘activated’ actually mean?

You may have spotted more activated foods on our shelves. But what does it mean, and why might you want to give them a try?

Activation usually involves soaking seeds and grains in water, then gently drying them. This process can change how they’re prepared, potentially improving the availability of some nutrients and reducing certain compounds, such as phytates, which can affect mineral absorption. Many people also enjoy their distinctive texture and flavour.

Here are three ways to try them:
🥣 Ancestral Superfoods Activated Granola Pumpkin Seed & Orange -
A crunchy granola with pumpkin seeds and a hint of citrus. Lovely with yoghurt or milk, or sprinkled over porridge.
💚 Ancestral Superfoods Activated Protein
A plant-based protein blend to add to smoothies and shakes when you want to include more plant protein in your day.
🌻 Raw Living Activated Sunflowers with Shiitake
A savoury, crunchy mix of activated seeds with shiitake mushroom and spices. Try them as a snack or sprinkled over salads, soups and savoury bowls.

Three different ways to bring something new to your breakfast, snacks or everyday meals… Will you give them a try?

Looking after your heart, naturally 💚

October is National Cholesterol Month, an annual campaign from HEART UK encouraging us to understand our cholesterol and make small, achievable changes to look after our heart health.

Alongside a balanced diet, regular movement and knowing your cholesterol numbers, there are a few products on our shelves that may be of interest.

🐟 Omega 3 & heart health
Lamberts Pulse and Pure Fish Oil provide EPA and DHA, the two main omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil. EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart. Pulse also contains CoQ10.

🌿 Garlic & plant-based options
AllicinMAX contains stabilised allicin extracted from fresh garlic, while Good Guru Organic BPKare combines organic beetroot powder with cinnamon. Both offer different plant-based options for those looking to include more of these ingredients in their daily routine.

💜 And then there’s beetroot…
We have several ways to enjoy it, from Alpha Zero One Organic Beetroot Extract and James White Beet It organic beetroot juice to Sweet Solution’s Organic Beetroot Latte.

Beetroot is naturally rich in dietary nitrate. Nitrate is converted in the body to nitric oxide, which has a role in normal blood flow, one of the reasons beetroot and beetroot juice have become such an interesting part of the conversation around cardiovascular health.

There are lots of ways to look after your heart, and no single food or supplement does it all. This National Cholesterol Month, perhaps start with one small swap… whether that’s adding more vegetables to your meals, choosing a nourishing cupboard staple or getting out for a walk.

If you’d like to know more about any of the products we stock, our experienced team are always happy to help.

Back to good food, made simple. 🌿

Sometimes a well-stocked cupboard is all you need to make a nourishing meal without too much thought.

We’ve been taking a look at some of our store cupboard staples, inspired by Biona’s Back to Good Food guide; from beans, chickpeas and lentils to pasta, sauces, pesto and other useful ingredients that can be mixed and matched to make something good.

And there’s something new on the shelves too: Artisan & Co Nut Roast Kits. Plant-based and made with whole ingredients, they come with everything you need to make a nut roast, including a baking tray and vegan gravy. Just mix, bake and serve. There are four flavours to choose from, including Country Vegetables & Cashews, Cranberry & Pecan, Roasted Pepper & Pine Nut and Wild Mushroom, Garlic & Herb.

Swipe through for a few ideas, and swipe to the end for a handy meal planner to help make putting together simple meals for the week a little easier!

You can also pick up a copy of the Biona Back to Good Food leaflet in store. 💚

SENSITIVE TOPIC…. 🕊️

A few things from our shelves that may be worth knowing about for anyone looking for some gentle support while experiencing grief.

🌿 For calm & nervous support
Napiers Lemon Balm Blend, A.Vogel Passiflora and Viridian L-Theanine & Lemon Balm. Different options featuring ingredients traditionally used to support a calmer, more settled feeling.

☕️For a comforting cup

Georgina’s Calming Tea is a blend of herbs chosen for their calming qualities, while Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime is a caffeine-free herbal tea made with chamomile, spearmint and lemongrass; a lovely one for an evening cup.

🌸For times of change & emotional upset

Bush Flower Transition Essence is traditionally used around periods of change, while Emergency Essence is intended for times of emotional upset or when things feel particularly challenging. Tisserand Balance is an essential oil blend of rose, geranium and clary sage, designed to bring a calming note to your surroundings.

🤍 For those who use homeopathy

Pulsatilla is one of the remedies traditionally associated in homeopathic practice with tearfulness, emotional sensitivity, wanting comfort and reassurance, and feeling particularly affected by loss or separation.

These are just some of the options we have in store, and our experienced team are always happy to talk through the different products and their traditional uses if you’re not sure where to start.
