A few tickets left for this special South African 🇿🇦 w**emaker tasting next week!

The moment that Pieter Walser realised that people judge w**e labels by which grape variety is stated on it, he made the decision to remove all signs of grape cultivar from the front and back of the bottle - and so BlankBottle W**ery was created.

Having no indication of varietals on the label - leaving it BLANK - removes all preconceptions.

Pieter uses minimal-intervention w**emaking techniques in his cellar enabling him to make w**es that show individuality. He selects grapes from 66 different vineyards, creates 90 separate fermentations in concrete egg, amphora and neutral and new oak. Remarkably, he makes 47 different w**es using spontaneous fermentation, so each w**e tells its own unique story.

We are very excited to have the opportunity to host Pieter Walser to present a w**e tasting here at Cellar Door W**es in St Albans. We will be tasting 7 of Pieter’s vinous creations, including his popular Moment of Silence white blend.

Jesus Madrazo Real de Asua worked at the pioneering Contino Estate and consequently, since 2017, has been making his own eponymously-labelled w**es. His direct ancestors were one of the founding families of CVNE and his much loved father, José, was responsible for the establishment of Contino in 1973, the first single estate w**ery in Spain. In 1995 Jesus was appointed Senior W**emaker at Contino, where he gained global recognition, most notably in the “art of blending”, winning multiple, international awards. He is rightly considered one of Spain’s leading w**emakers with a worldwide following.

Happy Orange W**e Day 2026!

Orange w**e is not made from oranges! 🍊 It’s made by leaving the grape skins and seeds in contact with the juice, creating a deep orange-hued finished product. Making orange or amber w**e is a natural process that uses little to no additives, sometimes not even added yeast. Because of this, they taste very different from regular white w**es and have oxidative and nutty aromas and flavours. The country of Georgia has an 8000 year old history of making w**e and the qvevri w**emaking tradition, in underground clay vessels, is the original way of making orange w**e. We have a wonderful range of orange w**e from Georgia and the rest of the world, come and see us to taste or buy one soon!
