Busy morning so far!

Our winners of the office lunch collected today ahead of their meeting, I'm about 120/200 brownies made, and we've done our lunch rush.

Thought I'd share this very pretty salad that our very own Anita makes so well every day, as well as the mountains of sandwiches we take on our lunch run.

Mammoth task ahead today as I make a special order of 200, yes you read that right 200!, treats as a thank you gift for a local school.

So if you see me sobbing over my mixer later, rest assured that "tears of a baker" is probably a key ingredient in most bakes... right The Village Bakery? Lucy Bakes? Honeys Cornwall? Anyone? 😅

Busy morning of baking. Gluten free Toulouse sausage rolls fresh out of the oven this morning.

Some delicious fruity blondies and some fennel, cheese and hint of chilli sausage rolls coming out shortly!

Also thinking quite far ahead, get in contact if you want to get anything as school thank you gifts! Or just gifts in general towards things like Father's Day!

We can do individual bakes or we also do gift vouchers - they could come and enjoy a treat over the summer, or maybe even an Afternoon Tea voucher if you're feeling generous.

This coming weekend is, in my opinion, one of the most important events of the year for St Austell Town - St Austell Festival of Children's Literature.

It's been going for a few years now and it would probably be easy to start feeling a bit complacent as locals to the town that it just 'happens' and isn't anything special because it just pops up and seemingly runs without hitch. Let me correct you on this one.

I have lived all over the country and this sort of thing doesn't happen in many places at all. Genuinely, never have I ever come across a more dedicated group of individuals who are so passionate about children developing and maintaining a love of literature, in all forms. They genuinely "will" the festival into existance, pour so much time and planning into it. And then for events to be £1 is crazy in comparison to the time and energy going in. There is so much evidence out there (i.e.https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a7c18d540f0b61a825d66e9/reading_for_pleasure.pdf ) that tells us that developing a love of reading in children can open so many doors and improve prospects later in life. Therefore the festival has, and will continue to transform lives.

I'm lucky to have been able to support a little bit last year from a cake sale (And got to meet Supertato), and this year we are hosting the BIG Festival Quiz (and providing pasties) here at St Austell Market House on Friday evening - tickets are available at https://staustellfestivalofchildrensliterature.com/event/the-big-festival-quiz-2026/

I'm also creating special festival cupcakes again that will be for sale on Saturday, with all profits going to supporting the festival. I've attached information about just a small selection of events around the many different venues across the town.

So I say it again, be incredibly thankful for the organisers for putting on a world-class festival here in St Austell, giving us something to be very proud of as a town.

Woken up this Sunday morning very thankful for my unexpected day off yesterday due to the rain.

But also really fancying a sausage sandwich so I've bought some very nice sausages to make into sausage, or sausage and bacon (or just bacon if you're that way inclined) sandwiches. Thick white, brown or seeded bread, and some GF bread too. Picture for illustrative purposes whilst mine is cooking haha!

And because I was in such a good mood, I've removed my current advert from the board outside... and if you don't know that means it's 10% off coffees all day till I put in a new one!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Just wanted to say a quick thank you. Despite all the awful weather (although nice and sunny now... typical Cornwall haha!) we had a really busy Saturday at the café in St Austell Market House and really felt the support from our local community. Lots of people came out specifically because they saw we'd been rained out of the Royal Cornwall Show and joined us for lunch, coffee, a treat, or just some kind words and company.

We even had a very special guest ahead of St Austell Festival of Children's Literature next week 🐰

Thank you! Back open again tomorrow if you're looking for somewhere lazy to spend Sunday. Fresh cheese scones planned to fill the place with delicious smells.

If you're in the Hayle area, go buy something from Lucy's Bakes! Saw them this morning packing up all their delicious food they spent all night baking - I've been in this position before and it's heartbreaking worrying about all the spare stock. Lend a hand if you can!

The worst news this morning upon setting up for our last day the show has been cancelled!!

We have thousands of pounds worth of fresh stock we just need to try and sell!

THE STOCK WILL ALL BE IN THE SHOP TODAY

50% OFF ALL STOCK - ALL CAKES & SCOTCH EGGS (excluding pasties, pastries & drinks)

Please please help share far and wide, myself and the team have poured so much into this show and am so upset we cannot trade today - we will be open as usual from 10am!!

PLEASE SUPPORT, PLEASE SHOW UP AND GET YOURSELF A BARGAIN!!!

Unfortunately the final day of the Royal Cornwall Show has been cancelled due to the rain. As you can imagine this is really hard on all the stallholders, charities. etc. Who've invested massively in being there in terms of stock, staffing, etc.

Thankfully I wasn't set up for a full market so haven't got hundred and hundreds of pounds of sausage rolls spare but we have still put in a lot to be there 😅

So if you're looking for something to do today, you can still support local at St Austell Craft Market today in Market House. Come have lunch or a coffee with us and help support us recoup some of the losses from today.

We have GF Red Velvet Cake freshly made last night! I'll comment a picture of it on my post in a sec!

Rain doesn't cancel St Austell Craft Market as we are inside St Austell Market House in St Austell Town.

Running 10am-2pm with some of your favourite stalls and many new stalls joining us for the first time as well as all the hidden shops at the market house!

Come have a browse, warm up with a warm drink and support local.
