Two more fields fenced to allow us to use them as individual paddocks rather than ranching the alpacas over a number of fields on the lower side of the farm.
We have just moved last year's yearling females into Graham's meadow along with two skinnies who need some grass.
Believe it or not this is the best grass on the farm at the moment.
At least they have a nice view of west Cornwall.

Wednesday was cria shearing day at Carpalla and we always enjoy seeing the clean, cute, mini alpacas appear from the mat.
Thank you to Colin Ottery and Samantha Ripley for their professional service.
We cria shear to remove the tips which have been damaged by the amniotic fluid inside mum. They act like velcro and attract hay and debris which ruins the fleeces.
Just take a look at Oc*****sy, so sweet and her fleece looks great.

We had a really exciting birth here at Carpalla today.
After inducing her yesterday Fowberry Charisma gave birth to the most gorgeous rose grey girl.
The sire is none other than Acton Hill El Capitan so she's one special little lady.
We have named her Oasis and her full pedigree name will be Carpalla Oasis of Calm.
Last year around this time we visited Acton Hill Alpacas to select a new stud male and somehow came away having agreed a deal including Charisma mated to Capitan.
Margaret wanted the colour she offers.
The second picture was taken at Acton hill and we always felt while we were there it was an oasis of calm sitting by the pond watching their very special alpacas coming and going from the barn.
Thank you Stuart and Angela for all you have done for us and for Oasis.

Update on Flora and her daughter we have named Carpalla Oc*****sy 🙂
Flora had partially retained her placenta so I had a trip to the vets this morning to get some antibiotics some metacam as an anti inflammatory and some oxytocin hormone to help her to shed the placenta and get the milk flowing.
By the time I got back from collecting it from Bodmin she had actually passed the placenta but she still got the drugs to be 100%.
Those who do retain placenta can easily get a uterine infection so better safe than sorry.
Another thing I found on the cria was a band of the dried out protective film they are born with which was around the tummy so I'm glad to have spotted this and cut it away.
Never a dull moment.

Most alpaca herds that breed their animals have animals that are really special to them even if they don't want to admit it.
We acquired Acton Hill Luna Rocks last year as one of those slightly special females.
She's by Fowberry Nobility and out of a very special fowberry female line.
Luna is a full sister to Fowberry Brigadier.
Brigadier was inspected at Angersleigh alpacas and very much appreciated for his gorgeous fleece characteristics.
Luna came to us carrying a very special cargo and has just given birth to a beautiful little girl.
Sire is Acton Hill El Capitan, who is one amazing male.
Carpalla Over the Moon was up and suckling first thing this morning.
Quite petite as Luna is a first time mum but charging around and difficult to catch.
So, Nigel doesn't have favourites but☺️

We are a bit behind on putting up cria pictures this year but today's birth is a lovely light brown/ dark fawn girl born to Bozedown Justice and sired by Acton Hill Le Chevalier.
Delighted with her density and beautiful colour.
