Oh spring! What a lot of things need doing all at once. But wanted to share again, at this time of seed sowing, how important, exciting and impactful saving your own seed can be.

And this year we're very grateful to be growing some of friend-of-the-farm Jason's garlic, which he's been saving for years in Ireland. It's head and shoulders above the bulbs we got from Learys in the autumn.

People often think that plants and therefore seeds can't adapt to different climates and soils this quickly. But look!

Sowing brassica salads, radishes, salad turnips, rocket, cress and cime di rapa towards the end of Earth Day, listening to kestrel’s yippee mating calls and occasionally seeing the pair swirl around. We do lots of direct sowing in the quick rotation brassica block, but for the first time ever we’ve had a near total failure from our March sowings thanks to weeds, slugs and the cold start to the year. Bit of a kick in the teeth when these crops are so important in spring, but feeling strangely buoyed as I sow thanks to the knowledge that our (and ) little farms can support so much wildlife. Happy Earth Day!

Attention all veg bag customers! Unfortunately we didn’t get our veg bag delivery today (only finding out it’s not coming at 4pm after we chased) and so therefore we can’t have your veg ready for Wednesday and Thursday home and Five Acres deliveries this week. Instead they will be one day later than normal - Wednesday now on Thursday and Thursday on Friday. Collect from farm orders will still be tomorrow but late, please don’t come until after 2pm.

Sorry for any inconvenience, but it’s totally out of our hands - normal service should resume next week!
