2026 vs 2019- the reality of drought on our farm🌱💧

These two photos show just how dramatically our available water has changed. In July 2019, our reservoir was essentially full. Fast forward to 2026, and we have never seen the reservoir so empty.

This year hasn’t simply been about having less rain. Prolonged drought, sunshine and very high temperatures have dramatically increased the amount of water our vegetable crops need.

We’ve had less than 10mm of rainfall since the end of April, meaning irrigation has been essential to keep our crops growing. To date, we’ve used 22.5 million litres of water across our vegetable production to simply keep crops alive.

Vegetables have high and consistent water requirements, and without a reliable water supply, both yield and quality are quickly affected. 2025 and 2026 has shown the difficulty of growing quality crops in the absence of water.
