Quick reflections on London Coffee Fest…

What a week. I’m still tired. I didn’t really know what to expect, big events aren’t really my scene. But we shifted a ton of coffee and met a load of cafes.

Highlights for me though, meeting so many of you! It was the best thing, you’ll know who you are, but if you came to say hey, thank you.

It was ace to meet up with a few roasters and our suppliers for a night out (one which I regretted for 2 days afterwards…). And we also shifted some wholesale to a Coffee Masters champ no less! It’s on it’s the way to the states now, that was a bit of a pinch me moment.

I also had the help of a barista for the weekend, Ricardo, what a pleasure. And thanks to Stanwell Technic for the hook up and top tier coffee stand they provided (if you’re after a mobile setup, speak to them), and San Remo for the machine.

Oh - I also had some coffee left in the van I physically couldn’t carry on the tube, it’s on the webshop now at a very tasty discount.

Nice one, Joel.

Last orders, coconut and a restock.

A little heads up to say we’re ‘closed’ next week. I’m off to exhibit at London Coffee Fest (stand G34, come say hi, I’ll have lots of tasty stuff, you’ll see me behind that bar above, I am terrible at pours). If you’d like to get an order in before, the last roast and post date will be this Friday.

The store has had a bit of an update as well. The recession proof Sudan Rume has been restocked, as has strawbs and we’ve also got a new coconut coferment on, it is bloomin brilliant.

Have a top week.

Let me know if you’re coming LCF.

Cheers,

Joel

NEW BEANS AND A THANK YOU LETTER.

What a month we’ve had at the roastery. I’ve been at this now for the last 8 years, always kind of been a ‘side hustle’, alongside full time work, or our high street shop. The last 12 months has been something else, for the first time it really feels like a business that stands on its own two feet. It’s what I do full time now. Thank you all for that, we’re busier than ever and the amount of new customers and repeat names that are coming in, it’s lovely.

It’s been a month of firsts, I collected a shiny red van (it is the reddest damn thing I’ve ever seen) a few days ago which has been long overdue, and have also got some bag weighing automation kit now in the roastery. I try to put off investment like this for as long as I can, keep overheads low, but it’s overdue.

Next week we have our first public cupping event at Arcade in Huddersfield (I’m very very nervous), and next month we’re exhibiting at LCF (say hello, I’m also very very nervous for this).

I’m rambling, so I’ll end by saying, thank you. This whole thing started a decade ago with me looking for a bit of escapism from work with a 250g countertop roaster, and now I’m at LCF next month - Couldn’t have done it without ya.

Right, enough sentimental nonsense. Beans.

A new recession proof, it’s a yellow sudan rume, it is many fancy. Two new coferments, strawberry and blackberry. The blackberry is absolutely fantastic, so is the strawberry, but I really reckon you try the blackberry. We’ve got a combo deal on the shop. And that Arturo Arango from earlier in the month, it was that good I’ve brought it in on as a staple.

Enjoy the sun we’re having.

We have cooked a lot this week. A lot.

The roastery smells of mango now.

So many bags of Jairo have gone out. This will be up there with some of busiest few days we’ve had on the online shop. Thank you 🙏 🙌. Joel.

Happy Easter. I hope the Easter bunny has laid you some delicious eggs. Speaking of egg shaped things, kinda, we’ve just put on a whole load of new stuff on the shop.

Another coferment, mango this time. Tastes like mango, I think mango is a top tier fruit, add some coffee into the mix and you’ve got a winner. A more rounded example of a coferment.

I’m also really excited for the recession proof release. A natural Colombian Castillo, one of the best examples of a recession proof release. If it cost me more I’d stick a holographic sticker on the bag, no business being this good at the price.

And lastly a Chiroso that had me fizzing with excitement when I cupped it.

All on the shop now. Have a top bank holiday weekend.

beans, brews & jet lag

hello.

We’re back from Japan.

How do you feel at the end of a holiday?

Normally I feel ready to go home, back to my usual bed, creature comforts. Not this time. Japan is something else. Amazing*.

I am feeling good to get back to the roaster though. I’ve really missed it, and for the first time in a while I feel properly rested and I’ve got a whole bag of new tricks I want to get rolled out into the roastery this year.

For now - A new recession proof release, Kenyan. The Rose coferm is back! I had so many messages about this, get on it. And another Ugandan from Norman and the Coffee Gardens. If you liked the last lot, get this.

As always, thanks so much for your support.

*My only holiday regret is not being brave enough to make use of the intimidating toilets with all their various high powered cleaning functions and buttons, next time.

I’m taking a little break.

The last 12 months have been an absolute whirlwind, new roaster, new premises, high street retail fun and a new baby in the mix. It’s been ace, but me, Lolly, Roshni and Aruna need a holiday, and this will probably be the last chance before school starts for a big trip for the 4 of us, you gotta take it.

So our last roast and post this week will be Friday, and after that I’ll be downing tools until I’m back on Friday the 13th of March. If you need something to tie you over, get it in now, anything placed after 8AM on Friday will be roasted when I’m back.

It’s tough, and maybe silly, to shut up shop like this in an online business, but we’d certainly regret not doing it.

Thanks for your support recently, we’ve got some silly stuff planned for when we’re back. Thank you. Joel

Oh - If you’re local to Saltaire, will be absolutely stacked with retail.

Hello. I’m writing this incredibly sleep deprived so bear with me. A little shop update and newsletter.

I hope you’ve had a good January - I don’t know about you though, but I am glad to see the back of it. I feel like our household has just had a non stop train of sickness since Christmas. I’m especially knackered because our baby has been in and out of hospital this week, we were there into the early hours this morning. She’ll be fine I’m sure.
Brighter weather and less bugs would not go amiss though. Swipe to see the picture above from my very bleary eyed commute into the roastery this morning, cold, damp.

ANYWAY. Enough whinging. We got some new beans and they will blow your pantaloons clean off I reckon. Two new co-ferments, Lychee and Peach, crowd favourites. They’re on now, as well as a tasting pack of both of them that saves a couple of quid.

We also have a new recession proof for the month, treating you with a pink bourbon natural, loads of raspberry. And lastly a new Brazilian, we’ve also restocked the Gaitania again.

Have a lovely weekend, wash your hands and drink coffee.

Joel.

Hello, it’s the 9th today, don’t know if I can say happy new year anymore, but y’know, happy new year.

I hope you had a top festive time. I personally ended 2025 pretty damn burnt out, juggling the growing roastery and shop/cafe was hard yards last year. Less fun and more slog. For 2026 I’m hoping to focus more on the roastery and streamline how I work. Moving the balance to more fun. We’ll see how I get on.

Anyway, to kick off 2026, ohhh mmmmyyyy, we got some top beans. Anyone remember the rose coferment from a few years ago, our best seller alongside strawbs, it’s back. It won’t last long. (It’s amazing, like really, I love it, I love rose though). We also have new Bermudez! Chiroso, it’s brilliant.

A new recession proof is also in, it’s from Luis Aníbal Calderón, a natural, fruit juice, ace.
Also, I’m conscious the rose is dear. It was very dear for me as well! Turns out fermenting coffee alongside crushed rose petals don’t come cheap.

Take care on the ice.

Have a lovely weekend.

Joel.
