Grassroots Garden

Grassroots Garden A new, regenerative market garden in mid-Cornwall, growing open-pollinated veg, by hand, with love.
(1)

Our CSA (community supported agriculture) vegbox scheme feeds households in the Redruth and Camborne areas and holds Thursday and Sunday volunteer sessions Incorporated as a CIC - Community Interest Company, to support the environment, and the community of Redruth. We plant an excess so that we can support people in food poverty in our local area.

Check out the mushrooms growing in the new veg beds! Not for eating unfortunately, but the veg is doing great.

The dream team propagated loads of sage, moved loads of stuff to sort out the bed edges, the van painting is going amazingly and we had a rather delicious veg curry from the garden before picking some plums. What a day!
Thanks guys xx

The Ladder in Redruth are Incredible! So they're building their own planter with a volunteer team to expand the edibility of the town.

Wanna help make Redruth more edible? Get in touch! All are welcome.

A £10 veg bag this week contains:
70g+ or salad mix (including first pick of the baby mizuna!)
Heritage tomato mix of 300g-350g
Cucumber
Aubergine
Half kilo+ of mooli/Daikon radish
200-250g rainbow chard.
All grown organically, here in Redruth, for our wonderful members and volunteers that support local, small scale agriculture.

There's a sliding scale pricing, of +/- 25% if you need help, or want to give help.

In a farmer's market or through Riverford, that'd probably cost more like £12-£15. Often grown with machines. This is all grown by hand, with love, and not-for-profit.

We need your help to get another 10 members who want to buy this veg and have it delivered every Wednesday (or you can collect), so we can owe you £10 worth of veg for every new person who joins us for at least a few months!

Grassroots Garden volunteers rock.

We've been making more planters for as well as seeding loads of winter greens and salads, harvesting lettuce seed heads and drying them, processing and drying tomato seeds for next year, and generally getting loads done!

Thanks for helping out guys, it really means a lot.

Join us Thursdays and Sundays, 10-4! All are welcome, no experience necessary - we'll learn from each other and teach as we get stuck in.

Refreshed some planters with a bit of a weeding, sprinkled seeds that were sat there waiting, and added winter spinach before a much needed watering. It's so easy to keep this food going!

There's loads to eat next to the tin man statue, and some small runner beans outside the health store!

If you want to get involved, you're more than welcome. It's for everyone.

"If you eat, you're in!"

Our Sunday volunteer sessions are picking up, and this weekend we did loads. Feel free to join us if you want to grow with us, or help put together another planter! No experience necessary.

Thanks to the lottery grant, we are hosting sessions on a weekend to open up volunteering to people who can't make our weekday session on a Thursday.

Seeding loads more modules, making another planter and seeding more crates - the town centre will have lovely autumn and winter salads to munch on soon! Thanks guys :-)

Feeling grateful for the support that helps us grow all this food.

The financial investment needed to be able to grow any amount of food, is much more than the cost of cheap supermarket food, so it wouldn't be possible without the amazing people that buy this veg, and the grant funders that make expansion of our work possible.

And we couldn't grow anywhere near enough to donate so much without our wonderful volunteers.

Support your local resilient farms if you want a secure food system that can weather our metaphorical and literal storms on the horizon.

Feel free to join our wonderful veg gang, either by volunteering or by becoming a member by buying a weekly veg bag. Details at www.grassrootsgarden.co.uk

This week, along with making new planters, me and the gang have been prepping new beds for next year, processing some seeds for next season, getting thousands of onions ready for storage, and making loads of passata! We got loads done as always, including netting newly planted beds and undersowing some clover seeds in the chard beds.

Thanks for all your help guys, I do love these volunteer days and it's great to have your company on this journey through the seasons. What a community we are!

Ways to get involved: buy our veg at www.grassrootsgarden.co.uk
Or volunteer on Thursdays or Sundays
Or be part of the harvest team on Wednesday mornings

Volunteer day has jobs for all!
I'll be doing some outdoor things like netting brassicas and weeding, maybe some tomato and cucumber pruning and harvesting, and I've got a pot of tomatoes on the hob to make passata!

We also have lots of pricking out new seedlings and processing thousands of onions.
Come on down!
