Hello everyone,
It has recently been brought to our attention that there has been some discussion online regarding Spice Village and the use of halal meat, particularly in relation to animal welfare and the practice of stunning before slaughter.
We have contacted the suppliers we currently use to establish specifically whether the halal meat they supply to us comes from animals that have been stunned before slaughter.
We can confirm that the halal meat supplied to Spice Village by our suppliers is sourced from animals that have been pre-stunned before slaughter.
According to the RSPCA, around 88% of animals slaughtered for halal in the UK are stunned before slaughter. For more information, please see:

For anyone who would like to understand more about the regulations and practices surrounding stunning and slaughter in the UK, the Governmentโs guidance is also available here:

We want to reassure all of our customers that we take questions about animal welfare seriously. We have taken the time to investigate this directly with our suppliers so that we can give our customers accurate information about the food we serve.
We are proud of the food we provide and of the relationships we have with our suppliers, and we will always do our best to ensure that we provide our customers with the highest standards of quality, care and service.
Thank you for continuing to support Spice Village.
