About the founder; Natalie Estella Seldon
My creative passion for the alluring world of food and fashion existed from an early day of parading around the kitchen in mama’s high heels, donning apron, wielding wooden spoon, and discerningly finger-licking the cake mix from our Mason Cash bowl . Much has blossomed since those first magical moments in the kitchen, although cake-making still features prominently in my life as a food writer, stylist, recipe developer, and founder of miniature cake company Estella Cupcakes. Graduating with a first-class degree in Fashion Design & Marketing, I went on to work in fashion couture under iconic designer Alexander McQueen. With my desire to work in the food industry showing no signs of fading, I enrolled at the prestigious Leiths School of Food & Wine before going on to work at Conde Nast EasyLiving Magazine, followed by Sainsbury’s Magazine, regularly working with Delia Smith, Jamie Oliver and Nigel Slater, among other great food heros. Fast forward some years, and buoyed by my time food writing, editing and styling within the food journalism industry, I launched my own cupcake company, Estella, where my bespoke creations and masterclasses have appeared in the likes of Conde Nast Brides, Food & Travel and Ideal Home. Alongside this joy of creating intricate and edible delights by the dozen, I have established a career as a recipe developer, food writer and stylist. My recipes have featured on the Good Food Channel & Red Magazine, & television appearances include foodie show Freshly Baked. The Daily Mail’s You Magazine has also written about my recent work for Jo Malone London, which involved recipe writing and styling my own desserts to feature in the advertising campaigns for their new Sugar & Spice dessert-inspired scent range. Sharing the familiar theme of food and fashion in harmony, I was also commissioned to produce a luxury fashion-themed high tea menu inspired by London Fashion Week 2013 – including Manola Blahnik biscuits and Marc Jacobs monochrome layer dress cakes. Other projects include food and props styling for Marks & Spencer’s wedding cake advertising campaign, and recipe writing and styling for many of Silver Spoon’s leading brands. I have also written and styled a cupcake recipe book for Nielson-Massey Fine Vanilla & Flavours, and contributed to Green & Black’s Ultimate Chocolate Recipes; The New Collection cookbook. When I’m not recipe writing and styling for leading brands, I can be found testing the latest bakeware products in my role as Ambassador for Mermaid. I frequently attend baking shows across the country, and recently presented alongside Eric Lanlard at The Cake and Bake Show in London, and appeared as a special guest at Squires Kitchen 25th Annual Cake decorating and Sugarcraft Exhibition. But one of my favourite places to be is the hub of it all – the Estella County Kitchen in Sevenoaks, Kent. I regularly host my own workshops from here, where I share my secrets for the perfect sponge and demonstrate the most decadent decoration making. Along with great food, this website provides a look into my life as I venture my way through all aspects of the aforementioned. I appreciate your part in this journey and very happy you popped by – thank you.
