Emmanuales

Emmanuales Emmanuales have been brewing beers of biblical proportions since 2014 A.D, speading the good news one beer at a time. We wear our hearts on our sleeve.

Having started as a budding homebrewer in 2014, brewer and brand owner Nick Law can only be described as a brewing, balding, worshipping, modern monk. Taking his passion for craft beer, creative perfectionism, and devotion to his Christian faith, Emmanuales was born out of a desire to play his part in the great tradition and heritage of hospitality and brewing as started by the Trappist Monks, cha

mpioned by the ale-loving reformer Martin Lurther, and perfected by Ireland’s favourite son, Arthur Guinness. Having obtained a license to turn his terraced house cellar into a small-scale commercial brewery in 2015, it became quickly apparent, due to popular demand for the elusive Emmanuales, that the business needed to upscale. Moving in with The Sheffield Brewery Company – based in the heart of the city’s industrial quarter – at the start of 2016, Emmanuales started brewing using the brewery’s pilot kit. In the summer, Nick assumed the role at The Sheffield Brewery Company as Brewery Manager. Emmanuales is now part of The Sheffield Brewery Company family, brewed, bottled and perfected on site in an old Victorian polish factory. Our aim is spread the good news one beer at a time. We are who we are and we aren’t ashamed of it. If religion ain’t your thing, that’s cool; we’re not out to force religion down people’s throats – just beer! And, like the Christian artists throughout history whose paintings, even today, adorn many chapels and cathedrals across this earth, we want to make the best beer around to the glory of God. So, whether you’re a Bible bashing, rainbow guitar strap wearing, Christian nut, or you’re just a curious beer loving, couldn’t-care-less-for-that-religious-mumbo-jumbo type, come all you who are thirsty, and – in the words of Cliff Richard – raise up your glasses and drink to the King.

It's been over a year since we last brewed Emmanuales but April has marked a new beginning for us.

This past year has been a process of packing up, leaving urband Sheffield and heading out to the rolling hills on the edge of the Peak District.

After months of angle grinding, laying epoxy, installing a drain, buying a new brew kit and troubleshooting leaks, the moment finally arrived to put beer in tank once more 🙌

For our first brew of 2026, we've gone back to our roots and created an 8.3% Old English Ale, brewed with Maris Otter barley and native British hops. It's tasting divine 🤤 however, it does need a name...! We'll be canning in this a couple of week's time, so should be hitting shops early-to-mid May.

It's quite hard taking photos of yourself brewing! 😅 (Much harder doing a video of it... you'll have to stay tuned for that). But God loves a trier, so I thought I'd get the camera out and take a few snaps from Friday's brew day.

The working title for the Old English Ale is 'Ancient of Days' but I may change that (if anyone has any better names, especially puns, in keeping with the Emmanuales vibe, please let me know).

Brewing again this Friday, something pale, hoppy and slightly more sessionable than how this almighty beer is turning out.

NEW BEER COMING SOON…! ✨

But…! In the absence of new beer, I thought we’d try some OLD beer. While ruttling through the cellar of The [now mothballed] Sheffield Brewery Company, my good friend Dave happened upon a few cases of Emmanuales dating back to 2017.

Naturally, I was interested to try these beers, along with a more recent year-old beer, to see how long you can actually store beer for before it looses its intended flavour.

Two beers dating back nearly 10 years as ‘It Came Upon The Midnight Beer’ and ‘The Monastic Order of Mosaic’. The third, more recent ale, was ‘Shekina Glory’, brewed little over a year ago.

Which will reign glorious and which will be destined for ‘the other place’…?!

EMMANUALES RESURRECTION (Part 3)

It’s been a whole year since we last brewed anything but we’re pleased to announce that after 12 months of planning, moving, angle grinding, digging, painting, rewiring and cleaning, we’re nearly ready to make beer again.

But that’s not all…! We’ve taken advantage of having a larger, dedicated space by acquiring a brew kit from , who have passed on the original brew kit that started out on back in 2014.

(Obviously, this means every beer we make now will taste like Putty, right?! 😂🤔).

Keep your eyes peeled this Spring and Summer as we’ve got some great beers planned in both can and keg, including the return of ‘Ryejoie’ (Red Rye IPA), ‘As The Deer Pants For Porter’ (Smoked Porter) and an Olde English Ale, ‘All Ale The Lamb’.

Grace & Peace, Craft Beer Brethren 🍻

IN THE BEGINNING was the Word… and chaos was over the earth 😅🤦🏻‍♂️

You may have been wondering for the past year where Emmanuales has been? Well, we moved the brewery to a new space and have been busy laying epoxy, painting walls, upgrading electrics, sorting drainage, and even buying a new brew kit (more on the next time!).

We’ve even put up some and tin signs on the wall (thanks Peter 🙏).

All this in my ‘spare’ time 😂🥱

Next I’ll be giving it a good old tidy, cleaning vessels and then doing a test of everything before we can start brewing again 🙌. It won’t be long now. Thanks for being patient. This is the third time I’ve resurrected Emmanuales from the dead, so third time lucky, eh?! 🤞🙏🍻

Stay tuned. Brewing will resume as normal this Spring with Resurrection Ale.

SHEFFIELD BEER WEEK IS COMING…! 🍺🎹⚙️

Sheffield Beer Week is a city-wide beer celebration starting on Monday 9th March, and this year breweries from across the city have joined forces to celebrate Sheffield’s sonic heritage as the ‘Synth City’.

Emmanuales, Little Mesters Brewing and Shakespeares came together recently at Little Mester’s brewery in Attercliffe to brew a New Zealand hopped Rye Pale Ale, named after the classic Cabaret Voltaire Sensori came together recently at Little Mester’s brewery in Attercliffe to brew a New Zealand hopped Rye Pale Ale, named after the classic Cabaret Voltaire Sensoria.

Hopped with Moutere™ and Southern Cross varieties from New Zealand, expect bold aromatics, big tropical pineapple notes, all underpinned by a solid base of sticky rye.

The beer will be available in cask and limited kegs. Get in touch with Little Mesters BrewingLittle Mesters Brewing if you want to order some for your venue in time for Sheffield Beer Week 🍻

2025 is neary over…! Roll on 2026 🥳🍻

It’s been quite on the beer from for Emmanuales this year but at the coal face, anything but…!

After months of preparation, wrangling with no less than 5 departments at HMRC, angle grinding, painting, wiring and moving, Emmanuales is (more or less) in its new home.

There’s still a bit of work to do (including a good old clean down of the kit 🧽🫧🛀🧼) and a degree of plumbing but I hope to be making beer again by February 🤞

All going well, come Easter, you’ll be able to pick up cans and some keg of Emmanuales in and around Sheffield and selected bottle shops/bars beyond these borders of the Shire.

May I extend a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has either helped to get us to this point or what been patiently waiting for beer again. I know it’s been a while but I promise you, it’s nearly there.

I could probably do with a bigger brew kit in 2026 😂

Until then, Hoppy New Beer 🍻🥳

HOPPY CHRISTMAS 🎄✨

It’s hard to believe that I last brewed in March 2025 in a small basement with no drainage, no decent floor…not much of anything.

As the brewery is very much attached to our home, for years we’ve been dreaming of owning a place where we could make beer in a way that was attached to our house without it *being in* our house. In April last year, we found that place 🏡 However, having moved in, in September, it became apparent that it needed way more work than we’d anticipated. This meant beer production would have to go on hold even longer than anticipated 😔

It feels really good, the night before Christmas, to have reached a point where the garage is ready to recieve the things it needs to take Emmanuales onwards. We’ve got one more coat of epoxy to put down (on Boxing Day! 😂🤦🏻‍♂️) before it’s ready to recieve shiny stainless work surfaces, some manner of drainage, and the return of the brewery equipment.

We’re hoping to be brewing again by February 2026 🙏🍻 All going well, our first beer will be for the wedding of a dear family friend, after which, beers will be available in small pack and some keg.

Thanks for bearing with us 🙏 More-so, thanks for retaining an interest in what we’re up to in our small part of the world in God’s own country.

Have a Hoppy Christmas and an even better New Year.

IT BEGINS…!

What’s up kids?! I know, I know. Waiting for the second (second) coming of Emmanuales is like waiting for the new season of Severence. But don’t worry, Big Yellow Storage has us covered (in a dystopian innie kinda way! 😂) and the brewery is now in safe hands on the severed floor.

Work begins with electrics being installed and we’ll be concrete grinding the floor to lay an epoxy resin, before putting in a sink, drainage, etc. It’ll be a far cry from the brewery I’m now brewing at (which is very lush and state of the art 🤤✨🤩) but it’s a massive step up from the cellar in Walkley.

I’m hoping to be brewing again by Spring. Will probably rebrew England’s Green & Pleasant Land as the first beer as it has become a firm favourite for customers.

Until then…! Stay safe with those egg parties 🥚

(And, yes - I did get the trolly stuck on the wall as I turned the corner 🤦🏻‍♂️🙈😂)

And, just like that, Emmanuales left Walkley…! 📦

Just before the pandemic, I decided to resurrect Emmanuales. After I left The Sheffield Brewery Company, it was a case of, ‘where on earth is this going to live?’. The only logical conclusion at my scale was in our cellar.

With the help of bounce back loans and coding a load of webshop for other breweries, I managed to convert the cellar of our terraced house in Sheffield onto a functioning commercial nano brewery. Down here, I’ve brewed and canned all kinds of beers, from IPAs to big smoky Belgian styles.

At the start of 2025, we decided to move and after my final beers in March, packed it all up ready for the big day.

Well, the big day arrived yesterday! Absolute stirling effort from Bramwells Relocation who hoiked it up the stars and into their van (and an even stronger effort from Lewis who single handedly carried a 55kg heat exchanger into its new home! 💪).

As I’ve said before, it’ll be a while before I get brewing again (and I have to remove all this stuff to repaint the floor and walls before I can 🤦🏻‍♂️) but it’s nice to now have a bit more space to make beers of biblical proportions once again.
