We are racing against the rain to cover the pond with slate so the alpacas' feet won't sink in and puncture the clay layer. Hats off to the volunteers who shifted a tonne of stone today. The work continues to firm up the surface ahead of the rapidly rising water.

With all this rain our nearly empty pond is filling fast. We thought it would be great to have a depth marker stick. The brave and talented Dillon made one from willow, carved marks every foot and waded in up to his knees to install it. Proper job!

Bluetongue is a nasty disease spread by midges which can affect alpacas and llamas. To keep our herd immunised we vaccinate them every year. This time we did the vaccinations ourselves with our wonderfully competent Jamie showing novice Lucy how to inject the vaccine. All went well. We did have some protest spitting though!
