Persian Gold is our new lactic Jersey cow’s milk cheese in herb infused Rapeseed oil. Zesty, bright and slightly salty with hints of fresh herbs, it’s a real summery cheese, so needs something, crisp, fresh and ice cold on the side right?

Well think again…. Caroline at has done it again and matched Persian Gold with a medium Sicilian red!

Both the wine and the cheese are ripe and soft, yet the wine doesn’t dominate the complex aromatic cheese and the cheese doesn’t dampen the wine.

Glastonbrie is made with Jersey cow’s milk, meaning it’s rich and buttery with a mushroom umami rind. Usually you wouldn’t pair such a cheese with red wine as the tannins fight with the creaminess of the cheese BUT Caroline from broke the rules again to find a wine for our new Brie-style cheese.

Full, gorgeous ripe blackberry, plum and black cherry, as well as gentle spice, this red from the south of France is also quite fresh and bright.

It really brings out the umani and mushroom notes of Glastonbrie. You get some tannin chalky toothiness, but it adds to the tasting experience rather than fighting the cheese.

It’s all smiles at White Lake again this week, with yet another big prize to show for our fantastic team’s efforts. We’re delighted to share that Driftwood, our ash-coated goat’s cheese log, took the title of Champion at The Cheese Awards at The Mid-Somerset Show over the weekend, just up the road in Shepton Mallet.

The Mid-Somerset Show takes place just a few miles from Bagborough Farm and Driftwood took top honours among entries into 66 classes from across the UK and Ireland. On its way to the win, Driftwood also won the Artisan Championship and was named Somerset Champion Cheese, having impressed the judges at every stage of the competition.

Made with unpasteurised goat’s milk, Driftwood is beautifully creamy, citrusy and soft textured. The light ash coating brings subtle peppery and earthy undertones to this cheese, which is perfect for cheeseboards, salads and pizzas.

We’ve had some incredible results at national and international competitions of late, but it means a great deal to come out on top at our local show. Somerset is, after all, one of the greatest and most-respected cheesemaking regions in the world, so to win here is no mean feat.

Roger doesn’t usually suggest pairing cheese with red wine as the tannins can be too overpowering. Enter Caroline from , who not only challenged this rule but concocted a savoury version of Eton mess. 👏

Tuppence x Babich Classics, Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand, 2023.

This soft Pinot Noir from Marlborough brings strawberry, plum, floral and gentle Smokey notes to complement the fresh, clean almost citrus notes of Tuppence.

This bold pairing really shows that rules are made to be broken.

We set Caroline the task of coming up with some wine pairings for our four new cheeses.

Any excuse to sit and enjoy cheese and wine in the sun you might say….

First up is The English Pecorino Fresco x Vermentino di Bolgheri, Guado al Tasso, Tuscany 2025.

A floral, citrus and herbal white wine which balances the soft flavour of the semi hard sheep’s cheese. There is a tangyness to the wine, which meets the tangyness of the cheese, saying hello and doing a dance on your tonsils.

You can win this combo along with our other cheese and wine pairings by heading over to our grid.

Stay tuned to see what Caroline paired with Tuppence, Glastonbrie and Persian Gold - it’s not what you might expect.

FOUR NEW CHEESES FOR SUMMER ☀️

If you think award-winning artisan cheese is just for Christmas, think again...

With lighter dining and fresher flavours in mind, we’ve taken inspiration from around the world, and added the best of Somerset.

Glastonbrie - a new Brie-style cheese made with Jersey cow’s milk. A natural headliner.

Persian Gold - a cheese-in-a-jar drenched in rapeseed oil infused with garlic, basil and marjoram.

Tuppence - small but perfectly formed. Inspired by the French Crottin, but with Sheep’s milk.

English Pecorino Fresco - a semi hard sheep’s milk cheese inspired by its Italian cousin.

These four cheeses and many more, available now for your picnics, cheeseboards and al fresco feasts.

Last week we announced that The English Pecorino and Moo’dy Blue were among only 141 products to be awarded a Great Taste 3-star this year. 🎉

We’re immensely proud of these awards as this stamp of approval is really hard to achieve.

Have you tried these two cheeses yet?

It’s already been a fantastic year for awards here at Bagborough Farm, and to top it all off, we’ve only gone and scooped the highest rating at Great Taste 2026 with both our Moo’dy Blue and The English Pecorino.

Out of 15,000 products to be entered into the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme, our semi-soft Jersey cow’s milk blue cheese, inspired by Fourme d’Ambert, and our sweet and nutty hard sheep’s milk Pecorino were among just 1.8% of entries to be awarded a Great Taste 3-star this year.

This is another incredible achievement for the team and a testament to their hard work and dedication to producing exceptional cheese here in Somerset. We know that these two cheeses will have gone through many rigorous rounds of blind judging to receive such an accolade, so we will be proudly adorning them both with the iconic black and gold roundel, complete with three gold stars.

Solstice, our soft Jersey cow’s milk cheese washed in local Somerset Cider Brandy, was also awarded a Great Taste 1-star.

Something new for your summer salads...

Our latest release, Persian Gold, is a fresh, lactic Jersey cow cheese, with a pronounced acidity and a firm texture - and it’s the perfect summer cheese. Marinated in rapeseed oil infused with garlic, basil, & marjoram, with thyme and peppercorns added to finish, it feels like summer in a jar!

We like it spread on a cracker for a simple snack or for a refreshing summer salad, crumble over watermelon and mint then drizzle some of the oil.

Have you tried Persian Gold yet?
