We had Jet for his first trip into town yesterday to start socialising him to new sights, sounds, new people, dogs, cars etc. He was a little superstar and behaved so well the whole trip. He lay peacefully in the back of the car, we wouldn’t have even known he was in there. We started off with a walk around the knab, the park benches were scary monsters. I had to walk on ahead and sit on them to show those scary benches what was what lol. Then a walk into the street, he was scared of the cars, to be expected but we let him take some time to look and then encourage him past. A walk to the harbour to check out the ice breaker converted into a luxury $80 million Superyacht! A visit to Grandma and then back home for a run out in the fields. He had lots of loves from various people along the street, thank you for stopping to take a moment to say hello to him and give him positive experiences 😊 We saw a few dogs and Jet was curious but content to just look at them from a distance. It was a beautiful sunny day, we were melting, wrong choice of coats, and that was the only thing amiss, Jet was such a good pup! 🥰🐕

Puppy cuddles, Jet is doing really well. Not doing any more commands/training with him at the moment, letting him just be to play and bond build with him.

With all this wet weather the ground is a muddy platch. We’ve had gales and rain for the past couple of weeks, so windy you can’t hear me speaking in the video. The poor weather seems set to continue for the whole of this week, with a forecast of snow tomorrow, eek… it’s cold enough. The direction of the wind isn’t helping with the wind blowing the hay out the hay racks almost as soon as I’ve put it in. The constant unrelenting cold, wind and rain has been hard on the sheep, so I really hope if the snow comes it isn’t much and doesn’t last long. 🤞 Tired of the wind, rain and mud now..

A little video of some of what Jet has learned. His name, come, sit, paw. We’re starting to work on stay. He was a little bit sleepy when we took the video lol but he tried anyway and not bad for less than a week. He’s a little smart bean 🐶😄

Squibbs a week ago in his stable. With the heavy snow and gales and minus temperatures Squiblet had been enjoying the comfort of being warm and cosy in his stable. It’s not the poshest, but he had plenty of space, Mooty in with him as a companion. Rubber matts to cushion his joints with shavings and straw. A heat lamp to keep him warm. A mineral lick tub, a solid feed block to nibble on, fresh hay, water and a nightly feed of sheep crunch and sugar beet, his daily jam sandwich that concealed his arthritis medication and a plentiful daily supply of biscuits, biscuits were the meaning of life to Squiblet lol. It was in the safety and comfort of his stable that he peacefully slept away, that gives us some comfort. 🐑💙

It’s with sadness I write of the passing of dear Squiblet this weekend. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday night. The Croft has lost some of its colour and is so much emptier without him. Rest easy Squibbs we loved you and you loved us back, you were one in a million. You were the best boy, Shannon’s boy. 🐑💔

Shetland ponies in the snow. Our native ponies have adapted to the Shetland climate with a double coat in winter and shaggy manes and tails to protect them from the harsh weather. Their smaller size enables them to find shelter in their environment and they can thrive on little grazing. In the first video you can see them scraping the snow back to get to the grass underneath. They also go down on to the beach to eat seaweed. They are incredibly strong for their size, of all the equine breeds, comparative to size, the Shetland pony is the strongest. In the rugged climate of their Shetland home, they are iconic and very much a part of our Shetland heritage. 🐴 💛

Feeding the sheep in the snow, they are in such a rush to find the best spots at the hayracks. No need to worry lasses there is plenty for everyone.
