Melplash show 🐷

We had another lovely day at The Melplash Agricultural Society show.
Brodham Clarissa 3 came 3rd in Traditional September gilt.

But the real stars of the show were the children.
Robin came 1st in 5 and under Young Handlers
Penny came 1st in Young Handlers
Fred came 2nd in Young Handlers

They were a real credit to our farm and did us so proud.

What a day. We had a fantastic Sunday showing our pigs. We took Cynthia with her litter, Chloe and Ellie.

Cynthia got 3rd in Traditional sow and 2nd in Sow with suckling litter
Chloe got 2nd in Traditional July Gilt

Penny got 1st in Junior Young Handlers
Robin got 2nd in Junior Young Handlers
Poor Fred had a grumpy Cynthia who'd had enough but got 4th place - he did well with a difficult pig.

Penny also joined in with the novelty class and dressed herself and Chloe up as ladybirds!

Pedigree OSB weaners
Looking for a new patch of mud from 19th August.
Birth notified meat weaners - castrated boars and a few gilts.

We've moved our dry sows out into some rough overgrown ground and they've been doing a fantastic job clearing all the overgrown brambles and bushes. No diesel being burnt - just utilising the animals natural instinct. When they've finished this summer we'll be able to reseed with grass and fix the boundary fencing.

As this heatwave is here to stay for a few more days we've brought in Cynthia as she is not a fan of the heat. The barn is much cooler and overall its better for their welfare to be inside at the moment.
5 gilts, 5 boars in this litter!

When you have 10 children bugging you and its just too hot... what's better than a cool bath?

Cynthia was struggling today with this heat so we encouraged her out into her very open pamper session!

New litter born! Dierdre did really well farrowing outside and we've yet to get close to them but we believe there is 10!

Hopefully they will start exploring soon 🐷

Cynthia is due on Wednesday and this heat has not been very enjoyable whilst heavily pregnant. But a cool mud bath helps!

The 1st June marks Dorset Day, an opportunity to celebrate Dorset’s rich heritage and beautiful scenery.

We love where we live and our farm here in Dorset!

When we say Outdoor bred and reared... 🐷

Went down to check the sows just now and found that Enid had farrowed outside since breakfast. 10 lively piglets and both placentas passed no trouble. What a fantastic first time mum!
