Have you signed up to Glitch and Glow this Friday? It's free!

With Dorset Visual Arts, Bere Marsh Farm will host a unique creative session called Glitch and Glow, led by North Dorset Trailway artist-in-residence Laura Eldret.

Young people aged 11 and over are invited to explore nature through art and technology. They must be accompanied by an adult.

Together, the group will explore ideas including digital foraging, glitches and night-time drawing, using the changing landscape as inspiration.

As the light fades, participants will be encouraged to pay attention to what the daytime misses and what may only reveal itself at dusk.

Have you been to our Friday farm walk yet?

Join Hannah today at 2pm for a walk around Bere Marsh Farm.

Come and find out we manage the varied areas of the farm estate, which include meadows, river and flood plain, and learn how agroecological farming practices here support nature and wildlife - and the importance of those practices to the local area.

No need to book, just turn up. And why not have a drink at the Buzz Cafe, open until 3.30pm, and run by our volunteers?

Every Friday 2-3pm from April to September. Enjoy a walk around the farm led by estate manager Hannah Bosence and guest leads. A different theme each week, from meadows and margins, to grazing practices and heritage breeds. Free event, donations welcome.

We’re fascinated by this creative technique!

Multimedia artist Arty Genny has kindly moved her intaglio printing press to Bere Marsh Farm for a residency in the Threshing Barn, where she’s been demonstrating the fascinating process of Tetra Pak printmaking.

You can see the technique for yourself at Genny’s hands-on printmaking workshop on August 27, 10am to 1pm, inspired by the incredible shapes, patterns and colours of moths.

All art materials are included, so come along and get creative while discovering more about moths!

We welcomed two of our local primary schools this month for a day of activities on the farm.

They enjoyed river dipping led by our volunteer river fly monitors to look at the health of the Stour. Caddis flies and water scorpions were some of the creatures found, and there was much discussion about the small fish known as a Bullhead, but with the folklore name Miller's Thumb.

Pupils took part in a butterfly survey and a fast-paced wildlife scavenger hunt, solving clues along the way.

Both groups ended with a wildlife art session. Using acrylics, they painted wildlife of their choice onto wooden discs, sourced from trees on the farm. Ice-cream formed a vital component of the day.

Here are some of their wonderful creations.
