It’s Thursday afternoon, almost the weekend, so our thoughts turn to wine. (Actually, that’s a lie, our thoughts never turn very far away from wine. But, for the sake of the ‘gram, let’s pretend we haven’t had a glass or at least tasted a few wines already this week…)
And this one’s a very pleasant reacquaintance with an old friend. Irene and Laurent have been farming their vineyards in the hills of Penedès organically forever and challenging the more industrial status quo of most wine growing in the region. They craft beautifully expressive wines in their less than glamorous winery, an industrial unit on the outskirts of Vilafranca de Penedès. I remember being somewhat sceptical the first time I visited, but Laurent and Irene’s warmth and hospitality, and their amazing wines with their delightfully quirky labels, soon won me over.
I met Laurent again recently and am delighted to have his wines back in stock.
Principia Mathematica is 100% Xarel-lo which undergoes a natural fermentation in large oak, then is matured 1/3 in steel and 2/3 in large French oak barrels for more complexity and texture. A fresh white, with aromas of stone fruit and a touch of minerality and almonds. Perfect with seafood but also great with richer dishes such as pork. Or just enjoy it on its own with a few slices of jamon to keep it company.
We also had Pas Curtei, one of their reds, but our first lot sold through by the glass fast at and in the shop and we’re waiting on more arriving… Keep them peeled so you don’t miss out next time 👀
