HELP US TO KEEP FARMERS ON THE MAP.

The numbers are stark and are sure to get worse this winter and into 2026.

We want to see more farmers on our map in the coming months. But the reality is that the challenges farmers face are mounting and we could see many disappear.

So please keep supporting them, particularly in the run up to Christmas now and bring a little cheer to farming families.

Llandrinio Bridge will temporarily reopen to all traffic under controlled conditions today, Friday 14 November 2025.

In our previous update, we confirmed that essential repairs to Llandrinio Bridge were scheduled to begin on 17 November, with full reopening expected in mid-December. Unfortunately, the recent, higher than forecast, heavy rainfall and rising river levels have delayed these plans, with conditions currently unsafe to recover the original stonework from the riverbed.

To maintain local connectivity and minimise disruption, we have now put temporary arrangements in place to reopen the bridge to all traffic under controlled conditions this afternoon (Friday 14 November).

The temporary traffic management measures on the bridge will allow vehicles to cross safely. However, with the reduced road width, motorists are urged to drive with care to avoid further damage to the structure.

What happens next?

We remain committed to completing the full repair as soon as conditions allow. This will include recovering the original stonework and rebuilding the parapet wall using traditional techniques to preserve the bridge’s historic character. These works will require further closures, which we will schedule to minimise disruption. We will let residents, businesses and road users know the dates in due course.

Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys, said:

“We know how important Llandrinio Bridge is for local communities, and while the weather has delayed our original plans, reopening the bridge under controlled conditions will help maintain connectivity until full repairs can be completed.

“Please take extra care when crossing, the last thing we need is further damage to the other side of the bridge while the traffic management measures are in place.

“We will keep everyone informed about future closures to continue with the repair works as soon as dates are confirmed. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to restore this historic structure safely.”

Llandrinio Bridge Repair Works to Begin Soon

Powys County Council has confirmed that whilst Llandrinio Bridge remains closed following last week’s incident, essential repair works are anticipated to begin on 17 November 2025, with the bridge expected to reopen by mid-December.

Since the incident, which caused significant structural damage to this historic crossing, council teams have worked closely with contractors and stakeholders to assess the damage and plan the necessary repairs. The priority is to restore the bridge safely and efficiently, while preserving its heritage value.

The planned repair works will include:

• Recovery of original stonework from the river,
• Full structural repairs using traditional materials and techniques.

The estimated duration of the works is three weeks, although this may vary depending on several factors, including:

• River conditions, which could affect the safe recovery of stone,
• Availability of suitable replacement stone, both in terms of sourcing and quantity,
• Weather conditions, particularly low temperatures, which may impact the use of lime mortar essential for the repairs.

Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys, said:

“We understand how important Llandrinio Bridge is to the community and local connectivity. Our teams are working hard to deliver a safe and lasting repair as quickly as possible. We’re committed to keeping disruption to a minimum while ensuring the integrity of this historic structure.

“We thank residents and road users for their continued patience and cooperation during this time.”

Day 9 of Llandrinio Bridge being out of action and we still have no encouraging update of any plan for remedial or permanent repair.

Even though the signage implies the B4393 is closed from Maerdy Junction it is only Llandrinio Bridge which is closed to traffic.
All businesses this side of the bridge are easily and completely accessible.

So from collecting your pork from Argae Cottage, ordering a take-away from the Punch Bowl or enjoying a fresh ground Costa coffee from Lewis’ Llandrinio….we are all open and looking forward to seeing soon.
