Appleby’s Spring Honey is now available.

New for 2026, this is the first honey we’ve harvested from our bees at Hawkstone Abbey Farm, home of Appleby’s Dairy.

The farm is managed using regenerative farming principles, with diverse flowering pastures and leys that provide valuable forage for bees and other pollinators throughout the season. Combined with hedgerow blossom and other early spring flowers, they help create a honey that reflects the landscape it comes from.

Harvested during May, Appleby’s Spring Honey is a pale, naturally set honey with a mild floral flavour.

Raw, unpasteurised and harvested in small batches, with every jar batch numbered for traceability.

Available in 227g and 454g jars.

Order online from us, or pick up a jar from Appleby’s Farm Shop on Fridays - definitely worth a visit.

A little behind-the-scenes moment from this week’s nuc deliveries.

Our regular Royal Mail postie used to keep bees himself, so he understands how important it is to get them to their new home quickly and with as little stress as possible.

This week he left our collection until later in the day to help keep the colonies cooler and reduce the time they spent in transit.

It’s good to know the bees are in safe hands from the moment they leave us.

We send our nationwide nuc deliveries using Royal Mail Special Delivery - carefully prepared, clearly labelled, fully tracked, and delivered quickly to their new beekeeper.

Spring Honey is now available 🍯

The first website orders will be going out from Monday 1st June.

This year we have two batches available from two different apiaries:

Myddle - a light, runny spring honey which has stayed clear and pourable

Lyneal - naturally soft-set, pale and spreadable (softer than last year, and my personal favourite)

Both are raw, unpasteurised and harvested in small batches from our own bees in North Shropshire.

Jar sizes this year:
• 454g - £11
• 227g (new for this year) - £6

Available now through the website for UK delivery and local delivery as usual.

If you can’t wait until Monday, both batches are already available in:
• Ruyton Stores
• Homedene Farm Shop

We’re really proud to share that we currently have a 100% queen acceptance rate across all of our Summer Nucs 🐝

With some cooler weather and rain moving in, we’ve been keeping the nucs topped up with sugar syrup to encourage them to draw fresh comb on the Anel plastic frames. Not only does this help rapid colony expansion, it also helps reduce stress within the colony due to abundance of food, which can have a really positive effect on queen acceptance too.

This queen (marked white) is an absolute tank 👑

She’s already laying beautifully and her colony is building rapidly, drawing fresh comb across the new frames at a serious pace. This queen is in one of our Summer Nucs which will be heading off to its new home with a customer very soon.

Summer nucs are now fully sold out.

Thank you to everyone who’s ordered this season - we really appreciate the support.

Our overwintered spring nucs have now all been delivered and are settling in very well too.

We’ve opened a small number of overwintered nucs for spring 2027 for those who like to plan ahead.

Very early, we know…but they’re now live.

We’ll keep sharing updates as the colonies develop 🐝

Apple blossom proving a really useful forage source for the home apiary. Right on their doorstep and the bees are working it well.

Our early spring forage guide is out if you’re keeping an eye on what’s coming in near you.

OSR in full flower round us here in North Shropshire.

This is usually the first proper nectar flow of the season, and where things can really start to move.

How much difference it makes depends on timing, weather, and how strong colonies are when it comes in. Some will make the most of it, others will still be building.

We’ve been putting something together on what’s feeding the bees at the moment and how this fits into it. Will share it shortly - sign up to our newsletter to find out when it’s out. Link in bio.

Our holy trinity - bees, apples and chickens.

Blossom just starting to come in now. It all starts to add up at this stage, especially when there’s a mix of things about.

It’s easy to focus on what’s most visible, but a lot of what helps colonies at this point is spread across hedges, gardens and bits like this.

We’re putting together a short guide to early spring forage, including where orchard trees fit into it. Ready to share in a few days time hopefully.

Dandelions are popping up everywhere now.

They’re one of the first really reliable sources of forage each spring, so you’ll see the bees making good use of them when the weather allows.

There’s a lot said about whether to leave them or not, but from a beekeeping point of view, they’re an important part of getting colonies properly going at this stage.

Worth leaving where you can 👌🏻

Flowering currant out now.

A useful early source of forage, especially when the weather settles. Plenty about in hedges and gardens, so it all adds up at this time of year.

These smaller sources help colonies tick over before the main flows arrive. Bumblebees seem particularly keen on it as well.

Not everyone’s favourite smell… 🐈 but the bees don’t seem to mind!
