Words from the wonderful team at Dorset Blue Vinny that we wholeheartedly agree with and share the same concerns.
We too have been hit with huge decreases to our milk price. We have no control over this, the price we are paid is dictated to us by our milk buyer and ultimately the people who buy from them, the processors and the supermarkets.
No-one cares about how we are supposed to continue when they take away a third of our income. It costs the same amount to feed our cows, to pay the vet, to pay the electricity company, to buy fuel for the machinery to feed and look after our herd. We are expected to maintain the same levels of welfare on a fraction of our income.
If the government continue with their blatant attack on British farming, as that’s what it feels like, we will all be forced to give up, that’s the sad and brutal reality of the situation across the UK right now.
Milk will be imported, from herds without the welfare standards that British farmers adhere to. Provenance will become a thing of the past and that is so sad 😢
