After a busy first week back, our pupils swapped the classroom for the water and enjoyed a morning paddleboarding🌊

For many, this was an opportunity to step outside their comfort zone, try something new and challenge themselves. It was fantastic to see pupils encouraging one another, showing resilience and growing in confidence throughout the session.

Days like these provide opportunities to build trust, develop independence and create positive shared experiences that pupils can be proud of.

As always, we are incredibly proud of our pupils and everything they achieved!

A little look at what our Woodchurch site has been doing recently🌿

At our Woodchurch provision, learning is all about building confidence, developing practical skills and working together through hands-on experiences in a calm and supportive environment.

The young people have recently been:
🌱 Planting wildflowers around the site
🪵 Creating signs using a woodburner
🐷 Building a new pig shelter and pig wallow
🚜 Repairing and fixing the paddock gate

These sort of activities give pupils the opportunity to learn through real-life experiences outside of a traditional classroom setting.

STEM linked in with our Fairy Tales topic this week 🐐🐐🐐

After reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff, the pupils designed and built different bridges and structures before testing them out with the guinea pigs to see how strong and stable they were.

The children explored which materials worked best, whether their bridges could hold weight and what they needed to change or reinforce to make them stronger.

There was lots of teamwork, problem solving and creative thinking involved. I think the guinea pigs approved of the final designs too!

A brilliant hands-on STEM activity combining storytelling, engineering and practical learning🐹

Moments like these are a great example of how hands-on activities support Occupational Therapy goals—developing balance and coordination in a meaningful way.

Student J has spent the last few weeks planning and designing these wooden signs as part of his Scheme of Work programme, showing off his creativity and growing practical skills. J has planned all of his own designs, carried them out and finished them with varnish. He’s shown great focus and independence throughout.
