We have unfortunately made the decision to cease the sales of Selfish Spirits and our Dark Spiced Rum.
Due to a tough market, increased costs and government increases on alcohol duty we can no longer see a path forward for the Selfish Spirits brand in its current form for the time being. This is a regrettable decision, and I understand that many of you will be disappointed. In the meantime you will still be able to sample our Dark Spiced Rum at our cocktail bar, Nightshade, in Skipton, which remains unaffected.
I launched Selfish Spirits with the anticipation of creating a delicious rum that people could enjoy, knowing that through charity challenges and donations to worthy causes they were doing good by doing so. Whilst we have done some exceptional good in the community, raising money for Youth Homelessness, Dementia Forwards, Mind and Skipton Food Bank, the state of the economy and the way the business operates means it can no longer continue as it has been.
We’re going to take this time to reflect on the business, where we did things well and where we could improve. We live and we learn, and we hope to return to the spirits/drinks sector again in the future, bigger and better than before. But for now it’s back to the drawing board.
We are immensely grateful to all the people who supported Selfish Spirits these past few years who took part in the challenges, who donated, and, most importantly, who drank. We are honoured to have been a small part of your lives, and will never forget it.
