The delicious dryad’s saddle.
This one is beautifully fresh, even though it’s very massive.
I really full body mushroom. Delicious butter with a bit of pepper and lemon.
Mushroom hunt is one of my favourite things in this year and six year-old daughter gifted me for my birthday
Lots of happy hunting to be enjoyed together.

Gorgeous pigs soon to wean. Electric fence trained, ready early July.
Tamworth X Oxford Sandy&Black / Berkshire X.

These are from really lovely stock, calm & people friendly. We’ve used them to rootle bramble and bracken, preparing the land for our orchard meadow & forest garden.

Big Surprise! Turns out the pigs are pregnant! Now we have 8 little ones to enjoy. Joy of Pig! S

These animals are so good natured and gorgeous…. Clean and incredibly industrious on the farm.
They have helped us control@bracken and bramble, and even dug up a huge patch of nettles to make way for an extension to the forest garden….

Now dangerously close to becoming members of the family. The plan is to make excellent pork.

If you want to take on a weaner for your own pig adventures then get in touch.
Find you fancy the sound of some choice cuts or sausage / bacon then drop us a line!

🌳Are You Young & Keen To Get Into The Forest?

Forestry Youth Camp is a fully funded youth camp in west Wales this summer for 18-21 year olds from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds to connect and learn about trees and forestry.

"The aim of the camp is to give young people a positive and transformative experience in the outdoors, connect them with trees and ultimately consider a career in caring for trees and forests in all of the varied ways that is possible and necessary for the future sustainability of our forests. The forestry industry is sorely lacking in diversity and we need diverse ways of thinking, being and doing if we are to address the challenges we are facing.

It will be a week of fun, learning and adventure, connecting with nature and each other, exploring what trees do for us, learning about forest ecology, crafting with trees, fire making, working in the woods, cooking together on a fire, stargazing, exploring and fireside fun."

All costs are covered incl. travel, camping kit and outdoor gear. It’s funded by the Scottish and Welsh governments and run in collaboration with Bangor University Forestry Department. The camp will be facilitated by Kwesia City Girl in Nature and Kara Moses.

Words from Lois - our Royal Forestry Society Trainee - reflecting on her experience working at The Hillyfield

Lois says:
‘I find it fascinating to be involved in the process of transforming trees into timber.’
‘Beyond the multitude of practical skills I’ve gained, working at the Hillyfield has deepened my appreciation of forestry as a mode of relating to the land, which encourages intentionality, deep ecological understanding, and necessitates a view of time beyond our human lifespan.’

Looking for a Grower to join our team, a garden gnome.
Green fingers, good heart, and passion for small scale land work.
Message Doug on 07976589927 to discuss.

This is an exchange role as part of our small-scale woodland restoration project working with a team of foresters out on the land.
There might be some capacity to expand to create more commercial opportunities or funded projects including others, but at present we do not have this capacity.
