🌍🍎 Today is World Food Safety Day 2026.

This year's theme, 'From Burden to Solutions: Safe Food Everywhere', highlights the importance of turning knowledge into action to reduce foodborne illness and improve health outcomes.

Safe food is especially important for young children. As the World Health Organization highlights, safe and nutritious food supports healthy growth, physical and intellectual development, and helps children thrive.

At Little Lunches, food safety is at the heart of everything we do, from sourcing and preparation to packing and delivery, helping to ensure children receive meals that are both nutritious and safe. 🍽️🌱💛

❗️This has the potential to be genuinely game-changing.❗️

For families living with food allergies, everyday life can feel like walking a tightrope. Every meal, snack, party, or nursery day comes with an extra layer of vigilance and trust.

As a nursery meal provider, we see first-hand how significant this challenge is. Around 32% of the children we serve have some form of dietary requirement. Managing this safely is essential, but it also adds complexity for parents, nurseries, and providers alike.

Imagine a future where the risk of severe food allergies could be significantly reduced, or even eliminated. The impact would go far beyond food. Simpler mealtimes. Less stress and anxiety. More confidence for parents. Calmer nursery environments. More opportunities for children to explore and enjoy a wider range of healthy foods.

The work being funded by Natasha’s Foundation could help make that future possible. It’s an exciting development and one well worth following.

Natasha’s Prize sounds brilliant. Even if it’s not going to cure me, if it’s going to cure other people and eventually put an end to food allergies then that’s great.

🍅 It’s British Tomato Fortnight! 🍅

Tomatoes are a staple ingredient in so many of our Little Lunches favourites, from sauces to soups enjoyed by little ones every day.

British Tomato Fortnight is also highlighting the importance of helping children build healthy eating habits, with support from VegPowerUK and their fantastic work encouraging children to enjoy more fruit and veg.

Tomatoes aren’t just tasty - they’re packed with goodness too! They’re a source of vitamins and antioxidants, including vitamin C and lycopene, helping to support growing bodies as part of a balanced diet.

Our Directors, Lisa & Chris, along with our Logistics Manager, Declan, and their family, are taking on Tough Mudder 2026 to raise funds for a local charity that’s very close to our hearts - Pilton Youth and Children's Project (PYCP).

At Little Lunches, supporting children’s wellbeing, healthy development, and positive outcomes is at the heart of everything we do, so supporting PYCP feels like a natural extension of our values. 🫶🏽

This 💚Coeliac Awareness Month💚, we’re shining a light on coeliac disease, which affects around 1 in 100, but is often missed or goes undiagnosed.

At Little Lunches, we’re proud to support children with coeliac disease by offering no gluten versions of all our standard menu dishes, so they can enjoy the same meals as their peers, safely and confidently.

Raising awareness is key, and organisations like Coeliac UK are a fantastic resource for information, including guidance on symptoms, support, and advice for families and settings.

Lunch really matters - especially for growing children 💛

By late morning, energy levels can dip and blood sugar starts to fall, which can affect mood, focus and energy. A balanced lunch helps refuel little bodies, supporting concentration, learning and play throughout the afternoon ⚡🧠

But lunch isn’t just about nutrition…

In nursery settings, it’s also a really important social time 🪑🍎
Children sit together, chat, try new foods and build confidence around eating - all of which supports their development in such a meaningful way.
