I was not expecting that today! Extreme heat to the heaviest downpour I've ever experienced.

πŸ“¦ On the left are the Box options. It's always best value to purchase a box, but of course that doesn't always work for everyone.

πŸ”ͺ So we have Individual Beef, Lamb & Pork cuts available too.

The aim is to make buying quality meat from the farm simpler and more convenient for everyone.

I made a lot more work for myself years ago when I decided to offer individual cuts in addition to meat boxes. But I do want to give you the option to pop in and pick up a pack of burgers, a steak or two, or whatever you need.

What consumers don't always appreciate is that there are only a finite number of premium cuts on each animal. For example, around 20–25 Ribeye steaks per animal. I could sell those all day long, but I also need to sell the roasting joints and stewing beef to balance the carcass.

I don't have more beef at my fingertips when we sell out, and ideally I want to sell all of one beef animal before taking delivery of the next. Our beef is dry aged for four weeks, so it requires some educated guessing most of the time.

At the moment, we send 1 - 2 beef animals every month, so new stock is never too far away.

It was wet wet, so the main man & I escaped to work on our new price list this afternoon. We've changed it up a bit and it's all very exciting πŸ“ƒ

We had four visitors to The Meat Barn today 🏑 Some days we see no one, other days we see lots of people πŸ’šπŸ’™

Plus, a chef visited this afternoon to learn about how we produce our Beef and Lamb, with a view to a possible collaboration 🍽🍷 I'm all about collaboration πŸŒΏπŸ™

Rich came in absolutely soaked. We also have no hot water. He went into town to get the part we need and it's out of stock. So he's gone to the pub instead πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ

Every ewe and lamb has been through the race today πŸ‘πŸ‘ Thats 2,800 ewes and lambs moved, all lambs vaccinated and weighed. Each ewe handled by the expert that is Nerys Wright Sheep Consultancy

πŸŒΏπŸ‚ BEEF OFFAL NOW IN STOCK πŸŒΏπŸ‚

This is something I have wanted to offer for a long time, and I’m pleased that I can now make it available from the two beef animals returning later this month πŸ“†

With it's 'superfood' staus, offal is packed with nutrients and has been valued for generations as an affordable and highly nutritious food source. Rich in vitamins, minerals, and protein, it offers excellent health benefits.

It's all about making full use of every animal, offering offal allows us to utilise more of the beef carcass, reducing waste and creating additional value from each animal.

I am also considering doing 'Super Beef Mince' enriched with offal. What do you think?

I didn't grow up eating offal and it still feels a little unfamiliar to me. If you have any recipes or tips on cooking offal please share πŸ”ͺ❀️🌿

On Monday, we hosted another farm visit 🌧 welcoming farmers from far & wide - Isle of Wight, Kent and beyond πŸ—ΊπŸšœ

πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ We have a number of visits coming up too, including Schools, Beavers, Young Farmers & other farming groups.

There's lots of interest in visiting the farm, and we're always happy to accommodate people where possible.

We are a working family farm πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦β€πŸ‘¦
It isn't shiny, perfect or particularly tidy (yet!) There are repairs to do, concrete is much needed and the jobs are never ending!! We don't have impressive buildings, machinery or other, just a willingness to look into the future and adapt 🌏🌿

Over recent years, Rich has taken the bold step of changing how the farm is managed; increasing livestock numbers, introducing new breeds of cattle and sheep, moving away from a single monoculture system, outwintering, and working more closely with nature & wildlife.

We're comfortable to share the journey with visitors, it's still work in progress and we're happy to show both the challenges and opportunities that come with it. Learning from each other is a valuable tool πŸŒΏπŸ‘πŸ‚πŸŒ³

Rich has been fencing most days πŸ”¨ and we've moved stock to provide ample shade during the intense heat πŸ‚πŸŒ³β˜€οΈ

Amongst it all, we've managed to carve out some time here and there to escape of an afternoon to the beach or for a picnic πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

Last week, we were privileged to attend Devon County Show where Rich was invited to judge the Beef cattle classes, and I was asked to take part in the Young Farmers agri debate.
We're only too pleased to support YFC and the next generation πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎπŸšœ
