We had a fantastic time at the Feeding Britain From Crisis to Resilience Conference on Friday!

It was so insightful to hear from a wide range of people who are working hard to end food poverty across the UK, from community pantries to local authorities.

Lots of food for thought and practical tips to help us tackle food poverty here in South Tyneside. 😊

What a fantastic time at the Good Food Local North East Celebration Event yesterday! 🎉

It was brilliant to see what each council has been doing to improve their local food system and help make the food landscape more supportive of health.

There are so many existing challenges and issues across the North East. For example, people here have a lower healthy life expectancy (average number of years a person can expect to live in good health) than any other region in the country.

The food environment around us needs to support us, and it's truly wonderful to see so many councils and organisations tackling this heads on. 👏

We're feeling even more inspired in our mission to deliver a more sustainable food system for South Tyneside, enabling access to food that is equitable and healthy for residents, organisations and the planet. 🍉

Lees Bakers have been a brilliant supporter of South Tyneside’s Local Food Voucher Project 🥖

By accepting local food vouchers through STOC Good Food, Lee’s helped families access high-quality fresh food while supporting an independent local business rooted in the community.

Alongside producing fantastic artisan bread and baked goods, the bakery regularly supports food insecurity organisations through surplus donations, proving how local businesses can play a powerful role in creating a fairer and more connected food system.

NECA Community Garden is helping grow far more than fresh food in South Tyneside 🌱

From community growing and composting to wellbeing, skills and environmental action, the garden is creating opportunities for people to reconnect with nature, learn new skills and access healthier food in welcoming community spaces.
