Correspondence here will be limited over the next few weeks but I'll be leaving you all with some top quality posts before I go for good.

The page itself will stay up, but I'll keep this post pinned at the top for anyone looking.

Nearly a week has gone by so I thought I'd give you some insights on the alternate social media we've been trying out.

Mastodon: Clearly the one most like Facebook with the exception of all the spyware that makes using FB really clunky. Additionally, it's more like old Facebook before every 3rd post became an advert and they started trying to monetise EVERYTHING. No ads, which is nice.

Bluesky: Old pre-Musk Twitter. I joined original Twitter late and it had already turned into a vile cesspit of human hate and intolerance. Bluesky, by comparison, is pretty chill. Maybe that's because the people who made original Twitter the hell-site it became are still there?

Pixelfed: Basically old pre-Zuckerberg Instagram. I've never used Instagram as I hate both pictures of myself and the staged appearance of most photos. That said, I really enjoy Pixelfed as it links into your Mastodon account and has ZERO adverts. Also I purposely chose to disengage from any form of news and so only see pics of cats and dogs so it's a great stress reliever and is an important reminder as to why I fight so hard to make this world a better place.

For the puppies and kittens.

MeWe: No. Just, no. When I read up on this, I really liked the blurb that came with it. That soured as soon as I tried to join. Joining was a ball ache. Had it not been "for science", I'm not certain I would have continued. The site itself is confusing and unintuitive to use.

Despite this, I persevered as I, apparently, have a masochistic streak or feel that I deserve punishment and this *gestures broadly at everything* isn't enough.

On further inspection, it appears that MeWe is filled with people who enjoy flirting with diseases thought eradicated in the first half of the 20th century and Trump supporters. The two circles in that particular Venn diagram seem to have quite a lot of overlap. So we'll pass.

We're nearly one month into the dumpster fire that is 2025 and, with recent developments coming to light like the 'salute' from the owner of "Xitter" and the owner of Meta no longer offering fact-checking services on their platform, and in some cases actually publishing misinformation themselves, we're not feeling particularly comfortable about using said services for their gain.

With Tango-Man back in power, and the leaders of the Western Tech world applauding him from behind, we feel it's best to start looking into other, more ethical, technological services in order to conduct our business. Even if that means cutting ourselves off from the majority of our customer base.

We do not feel comfortable telling you where to go or what to use but if, like us, you're starting to feel unsafe online or you just don't like supporting fascism and those who stand to profit from it, then we'll be sure to let you know how our experiences have been from the testing we're implementing over the next few weeks. If you're wondering what other platforms we're looking at, they can be found in the comments.

We're not abandoning Facebook completely as of yet but I, personally, would like to be rid of it by the end of 2025. Ideally sooner. We will also be deleting WhatsApp as it's part of Meta too. Again, we'll let you know what other messaging platforms we use but we will still be contactable by email, phone, or good old-fashioned SMS; finally giving you a reason to use all those free minutes and messages you get on your plan that you never use.

1 week till Christmas Day. It's hard to believe how quickly it has come. It's almost as if I were wishing my time away which, let's face it, I totally am as everyday brings me one step closer to the sweet embrace of death and out of this hellscape where people with considerably more money and power than me keep telling me this is the optimal timeline.

In somewhat lighter news, our intended working schedule is as follows:

Wed 18th (today): Open as normal. Also our last brew day (Golden Sands in case you were interested).
Thurs 19th: Open as normal.
Fri 20th: Open as normal except BOTH Pauls will be here. Handy if you're picking anything up from us.
Sat 21st: No. It's our Xmas party. I need this.
Sun 22nd: I said no. Please stop calling me. I regret everything.
Mon 23rd: Open as normal. May be somewhat longer as we'll desperately be trying to get everything sorted for Xmas.
Tue 24th: Close at Midday.
Wed 25th-Sun 29th: Closed.
Mon 30th: Open as normal.
Tue 31st: Closed at midday. Probably.
Wed 1st-Sun 5th: Closed.
Mon 6th: The Hate Begins Anew.

Lots of downtime there. As I'm a terrible person and I don't deserve nice things, I'll still be around between Xmas and NY. If you're a business and desperate for beer then leave us a message and I'll get back to you ASAP.

There is no salvation for me but you guys can still have a lovely time with some excellent beer 🍻

Hope you all have a lovely time xx

Bistrot Pierre - Southport are putting together a little celebratory launch party this Friday 8th to mark the return of cask ale in their establishment.

As such, one of us will be there as it's our beer they're selling. Starts around 5pm but obviously the venue is open all day normally. I'll be there slightly earlier as I will otherwise suffer from my long-term anxiousness of being chronically late to appointments.

If someone would like to pretend they are me and have their photo taken instead, I would be very appreciative. I'll still be there, just supporting in the background like the evil mastermind I have always aspired to becoming.

Occasionally, the fates align, and I begin to wonder if there is, truly, a higher power.

Words cannot adequately convey my happiness that this happened in time for Halloween.

Today was the SIBA Northwest Cask & Keg competition at the Bolton Stadium Hotel near Horwich railway station.

We entered two beers and I'm happy to announce that both placed.

Southport IPA was awarded a Bronze for the Session IPAs.
Eagles Dare was awarded a Silver for the Pales.

Normally I'd write a scathing comment about how we didn't win but, considering we haven't entered a competition in 7 years, we're actually pretty happy with that. Also, I wouldn't want to take away the well deserved win from those who won Gold.

It just means that our future competition will have to massively invest in their fire insurance over the next year.
