πͺπΈ Spain Weather Update π§οΈ
Following the heavy rainfall and flooding across parts of Spain over the weekend, our Nationwide EspaΓ±a team has been speaking directly with growers and suppliers to assess the impact on fresh produce availability.
Despite the challenging conditions, our current supply and transport operations are largely continuing as normal, although there are a few areas we're keeping a close eye on.
π₯ Peppers, Cucumbers & Aubergines
The rainfall was intense but relatively short-lived. Strong winds following the storm helped greenhouses dry out quickly, limiting the immediate impact on crops across our assessed supply programmes.
π₯¬ Lettuce
While current availability remains largely stable, waterlogged fields could delay upcoming planting schedules. As growers plant regularly to maintain consistent supply, interruptions now could affect lettuce volumes in approximately six to eight weeks.
π Citrus & Kaki
Harvesting and packing operations have experienced some disruption in parts of Valencia and Alicante. Oranges, clementines, and kaki are the main products we're monitoring, with potential quality and availability challenges emerging over the coming weeks.
Alternative citrus sourcing from other Spanish growing regions, including Seville, should help mitigate some of the disruption.
With our Nationwide EspaΓ±a team on the ground and strong relationships with growers across Spain, we remain in constant communication with our supply network.
As we progress further into the Spanish growing season, we'll continue sharing first-hand market updates, monitoring availability and working closely with our growers to maintain reliable supply for our customers.
