Having seen Jumbo (ear tag 747) suckle on Saturday we thought all was well but on Sunday it became clear that she was hungry. We then checked the cows udder and although it did not feel hot (a sign of mastitis), it was hard. When we tried to milk her there was no milk. A quick conversation with our vet and it was decided to give her oxytocin to try to help her milk drop down. This also did not work so Jumbo is now being reared on a bottle. She still tries to suckle from her mum but only gets the smallest amount of milk each time. We have spent the week milking the cow in the hope that the milk would start to flow but unfortunately this has not been the case
