Drink of the Day 175 – Miami Weisse (440ml @ 6.7% abv)
Available in store for £5.00

A Bit of Background – This evening we will see the play their 1998 Rivals, Brazil. Last time we saw the two teams play, Scotland was knocked out of the group stages whilst Brazil continued in the competition. If Scotland win or draw against Brazil, the team are well set up to make it through to the knock-out stages for the first time in the team’s world cup history.

The Tartan army have been partying hard over in the US – their time in Boston for the first two games of the group saw much of the city run out of beer, with one bar claiming to have gone through three times the amount of booze of an average St Patrick’s day – historically the biggest day of drinking in the Bostonian calendar. Whilst the Tartan Army have moved down to Miami, we only have one thing to say to Floridian bar-owners: prepare yourselves!

This special edition beer was brewed to celebrate tonight’s match, and as our friends over at STF love a pun almost as much as we do, this wheat beer is named ‘Miami Weisse’ – giving you classic Munich malts with all those hop-driven tropical fruit flavours you expect from the warm shores of Miami.

Nose – citrus pith, cantaloupe melon, pineapple, hint of fresh baked bread
Palate – ripe bananas, toasted marshmallow with a hint of clove
Final Thoughts – A delicious tropical wheat beer which will be perfect for quenching that post-match thirst. As Will Smith once said, Miami is known for “party in the city where the heat is on” but we don’t think Miami is ready for the Tartan Army!

Drink of the Day 174 – Glenturret Eclosion (70cl @ 46.2% abv)
Available in store and online for £95.00 – https://www.luvians.com/shop/whisky/glenturret-eclosion-european-oak-pedro-ximenez-sherry-casks-limited-edition/

A Bit of Background – The Glenturret distillery opened in 1763 and claims to be the oldest working distillery in Scotland. They have been owned by the Lalique Group since 2018 and have since seen a rebranding of the label and bottles. The Lalique Group also opened The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant on site, and it was awarded its first Michelin star in 2022. Now a two-Michelin star restaurant (the first and only whisky distillery restaurant to have 2 stars), the distillery also offers rooms in their nearby Aberturret House.

The Eclosion is one of the newest limited releases from the distillery. The name comes from “the moment of emergence: the quiet release into light”. This non-age statement release was matured in predominantly European-oak Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks with the addition of a single American oak puncheon.

Nose – dark chocolate covered raisins, orange oil, and a hint of kiwi fruit
Palate – marmalade and bright fruit combine with nutmeg and cinnamon finishing with a lingering cocoa-like powdery-ness
Final Thoughts – Come by and grab a bottle of this limited release today!

Drink of the Day 173 – Vault City Mango Inferno (44cl @ 6.5% abv)
Available in store for £6.95
A Bit of Background – Today we’re back with another of our favourite Scottish Breweries, Vault City. Vault City is an independent craft brewery from Edinburgh, known for producing intricate, boundary-pushing sours.
Unlike some of their more experimental styles, that play on aspects like texture for their smoothie sours, or flavour, often making use of pastry offcuts for their pastry sours, today’s pick is one of their classics, a fruity mango sour with habanero pepper, reworked for this new release. Vault City has their own scale from 1-5 sourness level; Mango Inferno falls at a 3 on this scale, remaining manageable for people who don’t want to be punched in the face with sourness, but compensating with the habanero’s fiery kick.
We’ve selected this in honour of today’s world cup match between France and Iraq. France is in the middle of a heatwave at the moment, so in order to show our solidarity with the suffering French folk, we’ve chosen a tropical drink to combat the summer heat they’re experiencing. Here pictured is our resident Frenchie enjoying her taste of the tropics (the Continent).
Nose – Newman’s Own Orange Mango Tango (New England regional classic), freshly sliced mango, sour gummy peach rings
Palate – Capri-sun, spicy hot chili, thick, creamy mouthfeel. Manageable sourness.
Final Thoughts – This beer has a real kick (wink wink) to it. Its spice is more of mouth-coating in your face spice, rather than a numbing, tip of the tongue spice, such as their Numbing Nectar from their Marvellous Liquids release. It’s sweet, not too sour, and has a long, spicy finish that remains on your lips. A classic for a reason.

Drink of the Day 172 – Brew Toon Everlasting Tropical (44cl @ 6.5 abv)
Available in store for £5
A Bit of Background – Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there! To celebrate this wonderful day, we’ve decided to crack open a can of the Brew toon Everlasting Gobstopper sour! In honour of the multitude of duties and responsibilities it takes to be a father, we thought there would be no better representation than the Gobstopper – much like the much loved sweet, a father’s love is eternal and multifaceted!
Brew Toon is a brewery from Peterhead, a nautical town in the most Eastern point of mainland Scotland. Their dedication to using local ingredients, experimenting with style, and honouring the heritage of the historic site they are based in, makes them stand out as one of the most interesting craft breweries from that region.
Their Everlasting Tropical promises a different flavour with each sip. A concoction of pink guava, pink pineapple and watermelon, its flavours develop over the course of the tasting.
Nose – Watermelon forward with a citrusy element, fruit punch, tropicana, grapefruit
Palate - Creamy texture, sour red gummies, blood orange, fizzy lances
Final Thoughts – This is the perfect drink for sour lovers. It’s sweet yet tangy and beautifully complex – as promised, its flavour keeps changing and deepening. If you’re fond of complex, mouth-watering sours, this will hit the spot.

Drink of the Day 171 – Dom Rafael Mouchao Branco (75cl @ 13% abv)

Available in store for £19.99

A Bit of Background – For todays drink of the day we’ll be trying a wine from the Alentejo region of Portugal – Dom Rafael Mouchao Branco. The grapes used to produce this wine are Arinto and Antao Vaz. The Arinto grape is known for adding elements of citrus and minerality while Antao Vaz is known for its volume, texture and fruity character. The grapes are cold fermented in stainless steel tanks for 2-4 weeks and is then left on its fine lees for 5-6 months before bottling creating a creamy mouthfeel. The blend of these grapes as well as aging on the lees results in a firm, delicate and elegant wine.

Nose – Lemon blossom, lime peel, and vegetal aromas

Palate – Crisp citrus, specifically lime, with subtle minerality

Final Thoughts – This is a fresh wine that delivers bright citrus and lively green aromas – great on its own or paired with seafood and white meat dishes.

Drink of the Day 170 – La Gritona Reposado Tequila (700ml @ 40% abv)
Available in store for £65
A Bit of Background – Today we are trying La Gritona Reposado Tequila. La Gritona is distilled at a small distillery in Valle De Guadalupe, Jalisco. Under the direction of master distiller and her staff of women, La Gritona is the only distillery to boast an all-woman distillery team. La Gritona is and always has been additive-free.
La Gritona reposado is distilled with agave plants originating in the iron-rich red soil of the Jalisco highlands, which are matured typically with an age of 8-10 years. This reposado is aged for 8 months in ex-bourbon oak casks – longer than the typical reposado tequila which becomes an anejo tequila after 12-months of aging – making for a creamy reposado with well-integrated oak notes that do not overpower the agave.
Nose – Herbacious, freshly-cut grass, ground white pepper, and pomello
Palate – Creamy, fresh mint on the mid palate, the agave comes through delivering notes of green bell pepper, bright vegetal notes, white pepper finish.
Final Thoughts – This reposado tequila delivers all the classic notes of a matured reposado retaining the freshness typical of a blanco tequila. Not yet widely available in the UK, stop by Luvians to grab a bottle today!

Drink of the Day 169 – Azevedo Loureiro/Alvarinho Vinho Verde DOC 2024 (750ml @ 12.5% abv)

Available in store for £11.99

A Bit of Background – For today’s drink of the day, we’ll be trying a classic example of a fresh, bright Portuguese wine from Vinho Verde.

Vinho Verde is Portugal’s northwestern-most wine region located between the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged mountains inland. The region’s name translates to “green wine”, but this does not mean the wine is green in colour! Actually, this refers to the lush landscape and youthful style of the wine itself.

The grapes commonly grown in the Vinho Verde region include: Alvarinho (also referred to as Albariño in Spain), Loureiro, Arinto, Avesso and Azal. This wine in particular uses a blend of Alvarinho and Loureiro grapes sourced from the transitional schist soils of the Quinta de Azevedo vineyards and more regionally typical granite soils of trusted contracted growers.

Nose – Ripe yellow nectarine, mango, a touch of passionfruit, and sweet lemon zest.

Palate – Grapefruit, hard boiled lemon sweets, white flowers, yuzu, a slight brininess and bright acidity on the finish

Final Thoughts – Enjoy this vibrant crisp wine easily on its own or try fresh seafood, sushi or a zesty salad!

Drink of the Day 168 – STF x Wilderness Brewery ‘Into the Wilderness’ (750ml @ 6.7% abv)

Available in store for £11.50

A Bit of Background – Highlighting another of our favourites from Simple Things Fermentations, this raw ale is also a collaboration with Wilderness Brewery. Founded in 2017 and based in mid Wales, the family-run brewery is focused on wild beers and experimenting with seasonality, barrel aging, and mixed fermentation.

Made from Wilderness’ own house saison yeast strain, Fuggles hops, and 5 different types of malts, this oak-aged rustic Belgian raw ale is bright, green, and citrus-forward. The malt types: Maris Otter, Aromatic, Black, Rye, and Wheat, all provide unique characteristics to the final beer. Wheat malt brings in bready and slightly nutty qualities, rye brings in spice and a grainy texture, black malt adds coffee-like flavours and enhances the colour, aromatic malt provides sweetness and complexity, while Maris Otter malt contributes biscuity depth and an intense maltiness. The beer is brewed with Scottish grist in a Belgian-style fermentation before the wood-fermented unboiled second runnings from a heavier brew are added and left to rest in wood.

Nose – seeded rye bread, wilted spinach, banana, and Hobnobs
Palate – Bright but still biscuity with citrus notes and acidity on the end of the palate before rounding out with a oatcake finish
Final Thoughts – A delicious collaboration between Scotland and Wales! Come into the shop to buy a bottle for your next celebration!
