Jo and her calf had a reservation booked for the front paddock.
We have previously used it like a lawn and mowed it but let it grow for grazing this summer.

Spring calving is done!

Little Jo was over due and despite the common phrase ‘a Jersey only grows a calf she can push out’ I was a little concerned. So no surprise when the feet began to show that Jo might need some help. The calf was big, very big but really the only sticking point was his elbows which were too wide. So Jo had a caesarean and out came a 59kg lively bull calf! Something 20kg lighter would have been quite enough!
Anyway Jo and her calf are doing great and he is full of sass. Little Jo has let me had milk her abit but I think the calf will have most of it as he’s so big!

Washing calf jackets💦🧥🐂

Many of our March born calves wore waterproof coats for the first 2weeks of life. The weather was wet and windy, the barn is only half finished so the cattle are exposed to the elements somewhat.
To help the calves keep warm and use their energy for growing (rather than heating themselves ), we put coats on them.
So now it’s time for soaking, washing and drying them all. The soaking liquor is 💩delightful 😬

The bees are loving the honeysuckle in the yard. It smells amazing 😍
