WHAT A NIGHT

There’s so much to process from last night 😅

Feelings of overwhelm, happiness, sadness, amazement, if only, thankfulness etc etc

Given the queue for the bar went way, way out into for HOURS is testament to the number of people who turned out to give Candid the send off it deserves.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support us. It was a bittersweet evening, but so nice to see so many faces wishing us well as we close this Candid chapter.

It looks like some people may have, we assume accidentally, permanently borrowed our Candid branded glassware as a keepsake…

We appreciate the sentiment of wanting a memento, but we had planned to sell these off as we look to settle the outstanding bills owed by the business 😢

ONE FOR THE ROAD

We’ve been overwhelmed by the reaction and messages received over the past couple of days.

We’ve had a few people say they can’t join us in person but asking how they can support in other ways.

IT’S TIME TO SAY FAREWELL

This photo was taken of us on the day we opened Candid in April 2019.

We were full of hope and optimism as we welcomed our first customers into a space we had created from a concept into a reality.

We were a family of 3 - our eldest son was just 11 months old when Candid started.

And 6 and a half years later, a lot has changed in that time.

Our family has grown with Candid in many respects. Not least our 2 boys. But the many people we have met through this place, who we now see as friends and family.

But there have been many challenging changes we’ve had to face too.

A pandemic. Cost of living crisis. Constantly rising utility costs. Product inflation. Successive fiscal ineptitude in Central and Local Government. Roadworks mayhem. People’s habits.

We’ve pivoted countless times to react to these changes. Some changes worked, others didn’t.

We’ve always tried to look ahead with the same optimism that we first set out with, but the time comes when reality has to land.

The Candid road has been a bumpy one for a while now, but the past few weeks have shown us that we are now out of road altogether and the time has come for Candid to close its doors for good.

This has been a difficult and heart wrenching decision to make, but it’s important to us that we try and end things in a way that does right by people as best we can.

There are so many people who deserve a mention of thanks: our brilliant team across the years; the many food traders who have become part of our DNA; our suppliers who have often been flexible and understanding; our incredibly supportive landlord; our friends and family who have stuck by us through thick, thin and flakiness; and of course everyone who has been a Candid customer, cheerleader and so much more over the years.

We are going to miss you all and the space we have built together.

We won’t be open Thursday and Friday this week, but we’ll be open for one final time this Saturday, 4-10.30pm.

Please come and join us to drink the place dry, and to say goodbye.

TWO NEW FOOD VENDOR WEEKEND 😋

What a treat! Not one, but TWO new food vendors for you this weekend!

Friday: .catering bring some much needed Greek sunshine on a plate. Gyros and koftas all the way 🌯

Saturday: bring on the cheese with - comforting Mac with BBQ toppings 😋

OKTOBERFEST BURGERS 🍔

Buckle up folks, because have taken hold of the naughty dial and turned it into overdrive (in every sense 🤭).

We all know Untamed’s burgers are, well, untamed at the best of times. But these are going to be on a whole other level!!

It’s meat feast central (apart from a tasty mushroom burger as a veggie option), so you’re going to want to wear the expandable trousers this weekend 👖

These smashers are going to be the perfect accompaniment to our Oktoberfest beer lineup, so make sure you join us on Friday and Saturday!
