Impromtu celebration tonight and had this in the fridge for a while. Its an Aldi UK champagne. Think it was £13.99? Not too shabby. Certainly tried alot worse champagnes that cost a hell of a lot more. I mean obviously it's not my usual type. But it's better than a prosecco for around a prosecco price. So what's not to like 🤷‍♀️

I havent posted any wine for a while. Doesnt mean I don't think about it 🤣. I am on a healthy eating journey at the moment. But the husband assures me that he is taking me out next month. So I plan to take full advance of that and go for the good wine 🤣🙈. And maybe some cheese to go with it. Would be rude not to. Right......🤷‍♀️

As you can tell I am not participating in such nonsense like "dry January". Pfft. No thank you.

I was however trying dry 2nd of January till 25th of January. But looks like I failed 🤨. Bloody horses this afternoon forced me into a bottle of wine. And yes I am in bed drinking a bottle of wine (don't worry I do actually have it in a glass I am not quite 100% heathen yet!).

Anyway. This wine is so good. Its like if a really classy californian chardonnay had a kid with a norse viking mead, then this would be the kid. On first taste your instantly hit with honey. I mean the clue is in the label right 🤷‍♀️. I just didn't quite expect it to have such huge honey flavour. For me there's also a really nice apricot/peach flavour coming through. It's a lush and rich wine and in terms of value for money against flavour profile I would say it's bang on. You would be hard pushed to find this flavour profile at that price range.

Its not chocolate!

But really the Boekenhoutskloof icon is one we have known and followed for years now. Not tried it for a while and never this young.

I'll be honest price value in this bottle is..... questionable. Its £24 quid or there about and in my opinion you will get a nicer wine for around a tenner less. Having said that though I still bloody love it! This kind of wine, this young should still be completely austere and harsh, Its lush, It's supple and it's fruit forward. And, if I win a few quid on a scratch card I'd go buy a few cases to hide under the floor boards for a few years. (If my floor wasn't made of concrete 😒). So round up. Lovely wine but my opinion it is just too young. It needs a wee bitty more age to it yet. Still enjoyable. But in a few years this will be something 🤩🤩. So either buy it now and keep it, or save yourself some money and spend a tenner less on any of the M.a.n family vineyard reds available from Harrisons Fine Wines . Infact its more like 15 quid of a saving if I remember right.

Despite all that. Isn't Boekenhootskloof just simply the best word you have heard this year 🤣🥰

You might remember I was between 2 champagnes for the festive period. Around July time I had decided that I was going for the and I was fairly set on this until I saw the Champagne AYALA at a very similar price. What snatched it for me I think was a vintage Ayala vs a non vintage Ruinart. For me personally I love the extra depth of flavour and rich brioche taste from a well aged vintage champagne (I would go with an aged vintage champers over non vintage but I'd take a non vintage over a young vintage champagne!) So this 2016 was bang on the money!

When I worked at Exel wines the Ayala was one that we stocked and I really really enjoyed it. But we never had the . So I swayed, a lot, between the 2 of them! I made the right choice.

Ruinart. The oldest champagne house going, don't quote me, I want to say establishesd around 1730/40's, would be lush. But this is beautiful. Ayala champagne house and again don't quote me (I have had a few wines already!) I want to say 1850/60's, but bought over by in the early 2000's, have produced an absolute belter of a champagne here. Its 100% chardonnay grapes hence blanc de blancs. This is produced in limited quantities in exceptional years only. Le Blanc de Blancs is a stunning showcase of the elegance and finese of the rich chardonnay grapes. It is simply beautiful. And everything I would expect of a fine vintage champagne.
