The last mushroom book club of the year tomorrow!(Tuesday 2nd to December)

We’re reading Merlin Sheldrakes, Entangled Life together. We read one chapter a month and we’re on chapter 6: Sixth sense….this chapter is about how fungi and mycelium responds to the environment around it, how it almost feels its way through the soil and substrate problem solving (without a central brain🤯)as it goes, its really interesting..it looks at how mycelium co ordinates itself to overcome obstacles…So good!!

We meet at 6:30pm. There’s no need to have read the book before, the chapters work as stand alone pieces, also no need to read out loud, you can just come along and listen.

We’re also nearly at the end of this brilliant book so will start thinking about the next one if anyone has any suggestions let me know.

We’re back with our wonderful pals for a Grow Your Own Mushrooms workshop. These are very fun, you make and take away your own kit and we talk about mushrooms for and evening over a beer (or soft drink or any other drink obvs) and it’s always a good time!

A few photos from Mondays mushrooms. We’ve got our next batch of Lions Mane tincture nearly ready to go, all grown over in Dunham Massey and prepared in Manchester…more on that in another post.

Also have mushroom book club this evening at the Red Bull in Stockport, we’re reading Entangled Life together so no pressure to have read the book or to read out loud. It’s a really nice time!

Ive been working on more birdhouses and some other mycelium projects, it’s been very fun. More on all of these in the mail out that you can join through the link in our bio..

GROW THE REAL STOCKPORT FUNGI!

This is a mushroom I foraged from Woodbank Park, put a tissue sample on agar then grew it out into more mushrooms, look how beautiful they are!

You can grow your own Stockport Fungi at these workshops in October, it is fun and they are delicious.

Mushroom Book Club is back next Tuesday 5th August.

We’re reading Merlin Sheldrake’s Entangled Life together, and this month it’s all about lichens.

Lichens are amazing…they’re composite organisms made up of several co-operating species, usually some sort of fungi and some kind of algae or cyanobacteria. They challenge what we think of as an individual life form, and maybe even make us question whether we exist as individuals at all ✌🏻

They’re also incredibly resilient and innovative…they’re able to survive in some of the harshest conditions on Earth, and also in outer space. Very strange but also very amazing.

We’re reading one chapter at a time, so no need to have read the book first. No pressure to read out loud either,just come along, listen, and talk about lichens (and probably some other fungi too).

Dreamy Antler Reishi. This mushroom has definitely been my favourite recently.

I was reading that the antler shape is thought to resemble spiritual antennae and it symbolises a heightened connection to the divine. Partytime 🥳

We dehydrate these antlers and using a dual extraction method process them into a tincture. Our next batch will be ready in a couple of weeks.
