12 MONTHS AFTER A CAR CRASHED INTO OUR SHOP, WE HAVE LOST EVERYTHING—AND THE INSURANCE CLAIM STILL HASN’T BEEN PAID
On 5 September 2025, a vehicle insured through Direct Line Motability crashed through the front of Sugarush Stockport.
The CCTV footage captured exactly what happened. The photographs show the devastating damage left behind. Yet, more than 12 months later, our shop remains boarded up and the claim for the repairs and stock we lost remains unresolved.
This was more than damage to a building. It destroyed a small independent business into which we had poured an enormous amount of blood, sweat, tears, time and money.
Unable to reopen and trade normally, Sugarush was ultimately forced into liquidation. We were left facing severe financial hardship, and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to terminate the contracts of members of staff who had done absolutely nothing wrong.
Those employees lost their jobs. Our business was lost. Our livelihood was taken away—and all because of an incident completely beyond our control.
We are not asking for special treatment or for anything more than we lost. We are simply asking for what is rightfully ours: for the shop to be repaired and for the stock destroyed in the crash to be covered.
For more than a year, we have dealt with insurers, representatives and solicitors while fighting for the money needed to put right the damage. Meanwhile, the people who built and worked in this business have been left carrying the consequences.
How can a vehicle crash into an independent business, with the incident clearly captured on CCTV, yet 12 months later the innocent business owner, employees and their families are still the ones paying the price?
I have the CCTV footage, clear photographs of the vehicle and driver, images of the extensive damage, and correspondence relating to the claim. This evidence can be provided privately to journalists where appropriate.
We are sharing our story because we have reached the point where we feel we have nowhere else to turn. We want accountability, a fair resolution and the opportunity to finally bring this ordeal to an end.
Please share this post and help our story be heard.
