The veteran trees in our Pear Orchard are fruiting better than they ever have.

Some of our Pear trees are over 350 years old, they had been fallow, barren of fruit & in declining health prior to coming under our care. A few of them have been lovingly restored, little-by-little, over the last half decade; removing branches that were dead, diseased, declining or in poor health, heavily woodpeckered or without vigor; training new growth into branches to replace parts of the canopies with new vigor, also grafting over centuries of grazing damage to heal low wounds to the trunks. Restoring veteran fruit trees takes a lot of time, each giant tree can take more than a day a year initially, usually in winter they only get attended to only if there's time after pruning our main stock; we have dozens still awaiting careful restoration in years to come.

Apples doubling in size every time we have a moment of decent rainfall. Drought otherwise hinders fruit greatly, sometimes over-thinning by forcing the trees to abort & drop the weaker fruits it cannot sustain.
