Taste Worcestershire Supperclub
October 23rd // £95pp (all inclusive)

Exciting news - our annual Supperclub is returning for this year’s Taste Worcestershire! Join us this October for a delicious celebration of local food & drink here at the vineyard.

This year we’re partnering with OhMyNosh to celebrate Worcestershire’s food & drink scene. Carrie has been a chef for 22 years - working in Michelin stars and private catering across the midlands - and we are thrilled with the menu of local produce she has put together for our event.

Tickets include a delicious five course dinner (vegetarian option available), a welcome glass of sparkling, plus 3 w**es specially chosen to pair with the dishes.

We hope you can join us 🤗

⚠️ Warning

There was a malfunction on the locking mechanism of its cage, so we regret to inform you that our Wild Madeleine 2025 is now loose, somewhere, in the wild.
We advise you to grab a glass, find someone brave, and help us defeat this monster.

Here’s what we know about it:

👹 It’s a fiendish blend of Madeleine Angevine, Siegerrebe & Pinot Noir.

🩸 Its flesh is blood orange coloured.

🍓 You can recognise it by its odour: Wild strawberry, Redcurrant, Orange peel, Red Apple and Damson.

🧪 We hear the mad scientist put it though 8 weeks of “skin contact”, and let it ferment “wild”

Luckily there are less than 500 of these beasts in the wild.

Consider yourself warned!

Harvest 2026 begins

Yesterday marked the beginning of harvest with our beautiful crop of Siegerrebe. Last year, we set the record for the earliest ever harvest in the UK. This year, we beat that by one day - August 18th can you believe it!?

Our fantastic, faithful, hardworking group of volunteer pickers (and 4 year old Arlo) joined us for a morning of picking 1.4tons of grapes. Harvest is an opportunity to catchup with friends and like minded w**e lovers - the sense of community spirit and mindful relaxation is incredibly heartwarming.

Then, for the first time since 2017, we loaded up the grapes to send to our new w**emaker Laurence at 1276 W**es. Chris, Tim & Laurence have been in frequent contact in the run up to harvest, so the drop off was simply a case of unloading the boxes, a quick chat, and then leaving them to it. We have complete faith that Laurence will make some great w**es for us.

Now that we’ve started harvest, it won’t be long until the other varieties come in. Madeleine will probably come come in next week, and then we’ll have to wait and see for the rest! We wouldn’t mind a little bit of rain or some cooler temperatures to slow things down a bit 🥵

If you’re on our volunteer waitlist, watch out for an email in the coming weeks.

It’s time for some news

After 9 years at the vineyard, and 8 years of w**emaking, I, Chris, am stepping away from Astley Vineyard at the start of September in order to pursue solo projects in the w**e industry. This is a happy, mutual agreement, but it does mean that things will change at Astley. When we moved here back in 2017, I was in my 20s, we were child free, and I was new to the world of w**emaking. In this time we have achieved amazing things at Astley – accolades for our w**es and our tours, we’ve featured on the menus of incredible restaurants, we’ve come to represent Worcestershire on a number of levels, and we have welcomed many thousands of people to learn, enjoy, and talk about w**e.

But in this time, I’ve also learned what I enjoy most: sharing my passion for w**e, helping others, and spending time with my family. W**emaking is clearly my most niche skill – and I’m obviously alright at it – but I don’t feel like it’s my purpose in life. I have other projects and desires in me which I can’t achieve if I remain a day-to-day w**emaker, which is why I’m choosing to step away from this role.

So what’s next for Astley?
Firstly our w**emaking is moving to Laurence Cocking at 1276 W**es. Laurence is a fantastic w**emaker – his Chardonnay 2024 was awarded the English White Trophy at the International W**e Challenge this year – and 1276 are of a scale where our w**es will get their fair share of attention. We recently sat down with Laurence to show him our range and talk about our ethos, and we feel confident that he can deliver the w**es you have come to expect of us.

Secondly, September & October’s tours and private events will go ahead with me as planned. I’m not suddenly disappearing – I still live on site – so you will see me around. Thereafter, Tim & Bev have exciting plans for 2027.

As for me, I’ll be taking a few months to plan and prepare for my future world. I’m staying in the world of w**e, but my scope within it will change & broaden.

So this is not the end of me, nor the end for Astley – its just a shift. I will be tasting & talking about w**e, and Astley will continue to produce grapes and make w**e.

Thanks for reading.
I will continue to post until September.
Chris

Happy grapes

Just like last year, the never ending sun has done wondrous things for the vineyard. Veraison is just about in full swing - inline with last year; which was 2 weeks earlier than 2024. If it carries on at this rate, we’ll be harvesting at the end of August…again!

Stay cool, and stay refreshed with a glass of something English 🥵

New opening hours

With harvest coming up, and a young family to enjoy & look after, we’ve decided to reduce our shop hours to Fridays & Saturdays only. No more Sundays sorry!

The 2025 Branwen, Bacchus & Justinius Kerners are all tasting incredible, so make sure you pick up a bottle whilst the weather suits them and they’re young & fresh 😋

Big news 🏅

We’re thrilled to share that our shop was awarded Highly Commended in the Small Cellar Door category at this year’s W**eGB Awards!

Whether you’re popping by to stock up, joining us on a vineyard tour, staying for a glass of w**e, or coming for a w**e tasting evening, there’s a warm welcome, and knowledgable family waiting to help you ❤️

As a team of just 3 people making only 6,000 bottles, we know there’s only so much we can do for the world of w**e. To have our work recognised at a national scale - against those 10x our size, or with backing from investors - means the world to us.

So if you haven’t visited lately - or ever - why not pop by to see our shop and pick up some of the newly released 2025s?

Thanks W**es of Great Britain!
And congrats to Westwell W**es for winning it 🤍

✨ 2025s

Roll up, roll up - we’ve got our first 2025s on the shelf! You definitely won’t want to miss these 😧

2025 was an extraordinary year for English grape growing. Unmatched sunshine & heat - even compared to the great 2018 or 2022 - created w**es of unparalleled intensity and ripeness. We’re extremely proud of all these w**es - we can’t wait for you to try them!

So without further ado:

💕 BRANWEN
Our pink lady is back, and this time she’s brought some attitude! The 2025 is an unashamedly bold and deep rosé. A blend of 60% Siegerrebe and 30% Pinot Noir, Branwen tastes of ripe strawberries, juicy summer fruits and watermelon. Soft, fruity and powerful, enjoy this rosé in the sun or with a barbecue. This girl isn’t messing around 💪🏻
£20 // 974 bottles made

🍍 BACCHUS
For the first time ever, we chose not to make Severn Vale in favour of our Bacchus. But don’t worry, the resulting w**e is a cross between the two - juicy and fruity, but also crisp and refreshing. Impressively ripe, the 2025 tastes of fresh pineapple and sweet green apples. Easily the best Bacchus we’ve ever made!
£22 // 1576 bottles made

🍋 JUSTINIUS KERNER
We thought our 2022 vintage was a once in a decade phenomenon, but it seems we were wrong! The 2025 is a powerhouse of a w**e. Salted grapefruit, preserved lemon, white pepper, root ginger - this is a w**e that delivers intensity, refreshment, elegance and intrigue with every sip. A w**e made for lovers of Riesling, Grüner Veltliner and Albariño. Pair with pork, grilled fish and tapas.
£30 // 920 bottles made

That’s all the 2025s for now - more to come!

Bottoms up

It’s been a busy month and a half for our w**es! From corporate events, to drop in tastings, vineyard tours and private tastings, our stocks have taken a bit of a beating. Thank you 🥰

But with that comes w**es that are nearly out of stock - so grab the following fast:

🍾 ARTIO 2024 - W**es of Great Britain & The IEWA silver medal, this quirky sparkling Sauvignon Blanc/Bacchus has been a firm favourite ever since its release. No replacement planned sorry!

🍏 SEVERN VALE 2023 - our house w**e comes, and it goes…but there’s always a replacement around the corner! 2024 arriving shortly.

🍏 BACCHUS 2023 - a classic English w**e, and ageing gracefully! 2024 replacement incoming.

🍋‍🟩 SAUVIGNON BLANC 2024 - this was a small release to begin with, but now it’s nearly done. Super bright, refreshing & delicious. 2025 (perhaps) replacing it.

🍷 OLD VINE KERNER 2017 - our old man was released at 7 years old, and he’s done himself very proud indeed. But he’s done his shift and needs to retire. 2025 replacement up next.

We’re glad you’re enjoying the w**es - keep cool 🥂🥵

Stay cool

Whether you’re celebrating with some fizz, relaxing in the garden, enjoying us at a bar or sipping with dinner, we’ve got plenty of w**es to stave off the heat this week.

Our picks:

🍾 ARTIO - A super refreshing sparkling Sauvignon Blanc/Bacchus.

🍸 VERMOUTH - There’s nothing quite like a V&T in the evening sun.

🍷 KERNER - Crisp, zesty & mouthwatering - made for nibbles & light dinners.

🍺 SAINT VINCENT - A refreshing piquette for b**r & c***r drinkers.
