Established in May of 2025 the Group has grown rapidly, as we aim to meet the needs of farmers in our area, especially those in the more isolated hinterlands.
BROOK HALL ESTATE AND FARM VISIT
Today a dozen of our Group made the short trip to Brook Hall Estate and Farm in Culmore. Where we were met by the very welcoming and informative David Gilliland. A very decent man, with an armoury of knowledge around land management and farming, and the history of the Foyle area.
Thank you to all the staff at the venue, for their wonderful hosting of our participants, 10 out of 10 folks.
Many thanks to Hilltop Café for the early morning breakfasts, and also to Mc Gowan Travel for taking care of our transport requirements. Extended thanks to our Rural Support Officer, Roisin, for all her work with the Group, much appreciated.
Next up we have a planned trip to Rathlin Island to see the puffins, and of course to avail of a guided tour of the Island.
Please keep an eye on your WhatsApp for further details.
Many thanks

Rural Support: "Storey-telling Session"
Our Dennett Plough On Group had a wonderful evening in the company of the fantastic storey-teller Stephen O'Hara. Stephen kept us entertained for a couple of hours, by dipping into old yarns and countryside tales from an agricultural land based past.

Thank you to the Men's Shed Group for setting up and supplying us with a venue that certainly complimented the occasion.
A big thank you to Roisin from Rural Support for her assistance on the night.
All members, please keep an eye in the Whatsapp Group for more events in the the coming months. Plus we will be getting ready in the next few weeks to put in place our purty rigs at the Mill site.
Many thanks

Rural Support’s "Plough On" is a Northern Ireland-based initiative tackling isolation in older male farmers by fostering social connections and mental well-being. The 18-month, National Lottery-funded programme features monthly meetings, heritage-focused trips, and reminiscence activities. With over 12 active groups across NI, it provides a vital,, tailored support network for those who have "slowed down" from farming.
Rural Support
Key details about the Plough On groups include:

Activities: The groups focus on reducing loneliness through shared interests, including rural heritage, history, and agricultural trips.
Structure: Each group meets monthly to socialise, with activities designed by the participants themselves.
Impact: Reports indicate improved mental and physical well-being among participants.
Growth: The project has expanded to include numerous locations, such as Glenarm, and is actively seeking new volunteers and participants in areas like Coagh, Rosslea, and Glenderg.

FARM VISIT
Last Friday a dozen of our Group made the trip up and over the Sperrins to Glenshane Country Farm. Where we were met by the very welcoming and informative Jamese Mc Cloy. A very decent man, with an armoury of knowledge around upland farming, and the workings of man's best friend. His three dogs put on a masterclass, with instruction in English and Irish, amazing to witness.
Thank you to all the staff at the farm, for their wonderful hosting of our participants, 10 out of 10 folks.
Many thanks to Hilltop Cafe for the early morning breakfasts, and also to Mc Gowan Travel for taking care of our transport requirements. Extended thanks to our Rural Support Officer, Roisin, for all her work with the Group, much appreciated.

Next up we have Stephen Mc Kenna in the room on Friday night coming. Stephen will provide an evening of rural nostalgia and storey-telling from an era of less mechanical reliance. Please keep an eye on your WhatsApp for further details.
Many thanks
